Default Things to do in Dallas with a 10 year old.

So the wife and I are thinking of a trip to Dallas for a convention in May plus a few extra days( week trip) with our 10 year old.

I've never been that way before and we are looking for other things to do around Dallas. We know that there is a 6 Flags nearby, so we may check that out.

What are other things to check out? Any tips?

Six flags theme park and water park across the highway are a blast. The aquarium and zoo are pretty solid too. I'd even say to catch a Rangers game, great atmosphere.

Great food everywhere too. I love the DFW area.

I went to Dallas and all I did was drink and go to the strippers. Terrible place to take children.

You realize you are talking to the guy who made his own furniture out of salad bowls right?

Both Cowboys Stadium in Arlington and their practice facility (The Star) in Frisco are really cool to see, and both are open to tours. Jerry Jones really went over the top on both. We did the open/non-guided tour at the Stadium and brought our own football from the Walmart across the street. We were tossing around the ball and shanking 20 yard field goal attempts all over the place. You can actually see the 5x Vince Lombardi trophies and related rings on display on the tour of the Star practice facility. Six Flags over Texas nearby to the Stadium was also a ton of fun.

Your 10 year old may not appreciate it, but going through the book depository where JFK was shot in downtown Dallas was really cool. It was a reasonably interactive audio tour of the day and such. The grassy knoll was a lot smaller than expected.

For food, Whataburger is supposed to be the Texas equivalent of In-N-Out, but I wasn't impressed with the chicken finger sandwich. Although the In-N-Outs in Texas were also pretty disappointing compared to the ones I've had in other states. Maybe just a bad day on both counts.
