Default Welcome to the era of Private Spaceflight

With the recent Virgin Galactic space plane flight to the edge of space, and the SpaceX team launching and reusing the same Falcon 9 booster 3x inside 6 months, space travel is more affordable and accessible than ever.
The two companies are following very different philosophies, but each are lowering the cost to reach space drastically, and there's definetly more efficiency to be found in the processes.

Who else is pumped for a new golden age of space accessibility? I sure am.

Current costs are $250k usd per person.

Its very reasonable to assume that if a typical Beyonder wants to, they'll be able to go to space before the end of their life. Which is pretty amazing when you think about it.

Seems like the Virgin Galactic setup would be the ideal way to do Musk's envisioned "rocket transport". By not needing to launch or land at see and being able to glide to a stop on a runway, international flights in 1 hour may be possible within a decade.

    This is awesome.

The opportunities for business and new technologies are immense. The cost's will eventually come down.
I have to agree with ZenOps. Im waiting for China to enter this properly, when that happens I think Nasa's budget will increase like 1000% overnight.

Haha so true. Trump's ego would be so deflated and probably say it's Mexico's fault.

I really hope there's a point in my life where I can take a flight, even for a few minutes, into space to look down at Earth with own eyes.

I was so sure we had a general purpose space thread. This was the closest I could find.

If you're on Telus Optik, the NASA TV channels are 718 and 719.

Those space suits look pretty damn cool. Not too far off from Sci Fi movies and television.

Haha. I was thinking the exact same thing.
"The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents... some day the piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the light into the peace and safety of a new Dark Age."

Read some unchecked tidbit about how astronaut suits take around 45 minutes to an hour to put on.
