A person is in custody following a dramatic police pursuit in Calgary’s northeast Monday morning.

Police said they were called to a report of an assault involving mace at around 7:30 a.m. in the 500-block of Aboyne Crescent N.E.

When officers arrived at the home, a vehicle fled the scene and drove over a boulevard, resulting in the car blowing out a tire.

Police said the car drove dangerously throughout northeast Calgary and out to Chestermere, before returning to the city.

Video captured around 7:55 a.m. from our Global 1 helicopter showed several police vehicles chasing a grey Nissan vehicle.
That's a lot of cop cars.

Seriously though, a million chances to Pitt-manuevre that guy, and they do it right beside someone's parked car.

Im sure they knew who was behind the wheel - thats why there was such a response. Probably wanted for something pretty serious already - perhaps assault PO

I have always wondered why we don't see more of these in Calgary. I mean, LA, Houston, etc seem to have these on the daily. I know they are a much bigger population, but the law of averages says we should have more I would think.

I really wish the CPS would release more of their HAWCs footage. I really think it would help to instill more confidence in them from city residence population, and maybe even provide more of a deterrent to would-be criminals... I dunno, just musing.

There are pretty strict rules/policy in place when it comes to vehicle pursuits within CPS.

Lol "I better run and make this 10X worse for myself, I might be the only person in history to ever outrun the cops". They have radios and helicopters - not going to happen. Maybe he thought they wouldn't be allowed to peruse as there are protocols for that.

Heading out of town then back in sounds like he thought they would just stop at the city limit

I witnessed a pursuit through Chestermere a few weeks ago around dinner time. It was involving a silver G6 that was being pursued by one peace officer. I think these things do happen more often than we think, we just do not hear about them all. There was also another chase involving a Subaru, a few days after the one i witnessed, that had a witness video taken and posted online (too lazy to look for it).

Head over to YYC and find a parkade. HAWC cannot fly overhead that easily - depends on conditions.

    Hollywood lie to me!

I wonder tho, how far does it have to go before CPS legally have to give up?

They don’t. There’s no “jurisdictions” like that in Canada. Although they’d definitely call for RCMP support since the units would be closer.

At the USA border they'd stop. And City cops would probably work on a hand-off to RCMP long before someone reached a provincial border. I think they'd be very reluctant to cross into BC or Sask.

Not Rail cops though, those fuckers have jurisdiction everywhere!

From CPR's own web site - "CP Police Service members have jurisdiction in any place within 500 metres of property that the railway company owns, possesses or administers." Link.

For crimes committed or affecting those areas. They can persure beyond that.

The fish and wildlife cops can go pretty much anywhere too.

As a bike owner I feel like you have given this quite a bit of thought.

Yea they wont bother you too much there - if you were a simple speeder and headed towards the airport.

The catch is that they can read your plate from the air at some angles and lighting conditions.
