Default Millennials can not open cans of Tuna.

So... Supposedly a good percentage do not own an electric Can Opener, and also do not know how to use a handheld opener.

They told me this day would come.

So I take it you are siding with the idea that millennials do have the proper tools, but are incapable of using them?

No, I just don't jump to the ridiculous conclusions you do.

The 90s had their own problems with cans as well:

Conclusions can be tough to come to. But they don't sell very many electric can openers. Statistically, India has more people who own a cellphone than a toilet.

How long does a can opener actually last, and how often is one gifted by a parent to child? No hard statistics. The much bigger question is: Do millennials not have or use can openers because of preference (like cellphone over toilet) Starkist also stated that their "Tuna in plastic pouch" sales are up 20% in the same time, even though they are tougher on the environment.

It would be reasonable to assume that many do not know how to use a can opener simply based on preference. Is milk better in a plastic bladder or a cardboard box? I grew up for a decade on milk in a plastic bladder, but you had to drink it within a week for sure. I would not trust Tuna in plastic over a month.

I find it fascinating, because in a real disaster scenario like a highway shutdown for two weeks because of snow, or alien invasion, you really want canned food.

BTW: The easiest way to test this is to make it a part of an employment test. Open a tin of tuna as well as you can (no juices sprayed all over the place) within a reasonable amount of time. I can imagine Canadians will do fairly well, but would not be surprised if half could not do it.

Californians? I can imagine a majority would fail.

I blame the can opener manufacturers. To save costs they’ve gone to metals that aren’t much stronger than the damn can. My parents still have the same can opener they’ve had as long as I can remember. I think I’ve gone through 3 since I moved out not even 10 years ago.

This video could be done in the EU just the same - the people of that generation would not be much different there - perhaps even more left leaning and clueless to working with their hands.

Boomers can't set up basic electronics. Yet the world continues to turn. Weird.
