Default 2019 Winter Driver Training (incl. Dec. 30)

The first Winter Driver Training for the season registration is open (Sunday, Dec. 30, 2018). There will likely be 3 more this winter in January to Feb (stay tuned). You can even buy one as a gift just in time for Christmas:

    motorsportreg.com
SASC Winter Driver Training 2018-19, Dec. 30
Car Control Clinic w/ Southern Alberta Solosport Club on Sunday,…

For more info and such, go to our forum or Facebook page.

    Register or buy gift here:

There is still one day left to sign up for this event! Now with a couple of inches of new snow we are good to go ... and more snow forecast for Sunday ... PERFECT! So if you know of anyone wanting one of these schools, please be diligent and be sure to let them know of this link! One day left. This happens on Sunday (it is a go!) BTW, for anyone wishing to help setup we will be doing that on Saturday afternoon.

We have also got a reduced rate of $150 for adults and $75 for students (must present current student ID).

The next one is the BMW club school that we host/run on Jan. 19 (Sat.).

There will be others posted soon (executive meeting tonight) but you can see the tentative schedule at the SASC Forum:
    http://forums.sascsolo.com/index.php?topic=1293.0

Look for new info and confirmation of the dates soon.

The BMW club school has been post-poned to Feb. 2 and we have the next one this Sunday:

Do you know anyone looking for a winter driving school? Please let them know that we have one this Sunday .... good for trying out new tires, cars etc. also ... also not a bad idea to get some seat time! Also, something people may not realize is that the speed around corners are very comparable to Ghost Lake because the surface is not as slippery which results in more grip than out at the Lake where it was almost impossible to get going with some vehicles on all-seasons etc.

I am also looking to see if anything will happen in the Calgary area this year.

I was told by SpecR Motorsports that they are not allowed to do it at Ghost lake this year.
if I don't see anything posted in here the next few days, I'm going to sign up for the Northern Alberta Sports Car Club Winter driving course near Edmonton

Its a 2 days event; so that means I'd have to get a hotel, and its a little more than what I want to spend. but since I have a Powerful V8 RWD car with studs this year, I want to make the best of it

If anyone is interested in going with me and maybe sharing a room, PM me

There is currently no venue available for winter driving schools in and around Calgary.

Transalta apparently owns the right of way to the land under the only useable boat launch and has threatened legal actions to any clubs using a the lake for events regardless of what they are doing.

So the NASC one is a good option I'll look into that thanks for posting. I did the SASC one on ghost and would really like another go but not interested in the parking lot option

Not just under the boat launch, they own all of the lands, it's technically not a lake but rather a reservoir caused from damming the river. They have some sort of an agreement with Alberta Parks allowing for recreational use but they felt that the SASC's schools and CSCC's Ice Dice having upwards of 30 cars on the lake at a time posed too big of a risk to them. It's a shame as we (SASC) used that venue for years.

NASCC pushed the winter driving course back to Feb

and they are using a lake that is closer to Red Deer, less driving for us Calgary people.
but they are still holding the class room session in Edmonton; this is one of the factors as to why I haven't signed up completely.

Don't worry, you didn't miss it

No one in Alberta had a winter driver course this year. they all got canceled - The NASCC rescheduled 3 times and still canceled it as they needed more days for their actual ice racing series

I was even desperate enough to pay $500+ to join Mercedes Benz Edmonton West and their private winter driver school/course
and sure enough, last minute they canceled

Better luck next year; but next year who knows what i'll be driving for winter.

This year I had a powerful V8 RWD Mercedes with studded tires lined up; would have been a riot
