    The hood adds character!

Kind of acts as a scoop for the air filter. The new headlights make it looks so much newer too.

I'd let you take it for a spin, be interested to see your take on it as a WRX owner. I've driven lots of STIs and WRXes and the turbo SOHC feels way way more peppy down low and onto boost faster.

I fix. Got an engine last Sunday, swapped it in today. Took about 6hrs working at a chill pace. The old engine was very broken lol. Rod#1 snapped and smashed around, cracked the block so bad all the coolant was in the oil pan when I drained it.

Turbo looks kinda big compared to factory subaru turbos when the engine is outta the way lol

All back together and ready to break more hearts. The lesbaru lives!

Lil update, the engine I plopped in was a bit of a smoker so I pulled it and am doing valve seals this weekend.

The seals were basically completely fucked lol.

Last weekend I bought a nice clean running 02 impreza. My plan is to drive the OG lesbaru one more winter and then build version 2.0 into the clean blue car next year. This car is becoming increasingly clapped out after the hit and run, also the progression of rust from it being my winter beater.

Time to slap my turbo junk onto the blue car. It will be much more tame this time around since I want to use the Subaru's microsquirt and injectors for a different project. This time it will be running more like 5psi of boost instead of 13psi and utilizing an old Vortech FMU I had lying around instead of a standalone. Besides I've already proven my point that a SOHC can beat STIs.

Started out with an ABS delete to make room for the intercooler reservoir and turbo intake. Just tee the lines together and remove the unit.

Here's all the parts of the old water to air intercooler setup. Heat exchanger, pump, reservoir, and of course the intercooler.

Installed. Just stuck a filter on it for now til I put the turbo on.

Installed the Vortech FMU. They have their limitations, but seem to work ok for a couple pounds of boost. Had one on my BMW wagon.

And installed my wideband and boost gauges.

I've never used a Vortech but I had a BEGI on my old neon and it worked well. It had adjustable base pressure and rate of gain. According to lots of old racers, they work well with relatively large turbos on lower boost, where you aren't going to get a lot of part throttle boost going on. I had a S20G TD06-10cm² which is plenty for a 2-L and it worked well. Since you've run that regulator before you know what to expect but for others that aren't sure about if they work well, they generally do but sometimes you need to adjust them as the weather changes since they are mechanical.

I also found on my BMW it was also sensitive to fuel temperature, since fuel density lowers as it heats up you end up a couple points leaner after say an hour of driving in hot summer weather. This is mainly a winter car though (welded diff, studded tires) so I'm not concerned. Most modern EFI systems have a fuel temp sensor and compensation for temperature vs density.

Got it all together and making boost, FMU works as intended and gets it to around 11:1afr. Intercooler pump is dead from sitting so Ill need a new one before I can fill and bleed the system.

Forgot to mention, I added an external gate to this to control boost better than the internal gate that I chopped apart and cut the spring on. Can hear it brapping in the previous video

Last time I lapped my Subaru out there I blew the oil pressure switch out from the front corner of the driver side head. Cracked the thin casting, shit design.

Yeah the 05-up SOHCs have that design for their version of VTEC. I had to re drill and tap one on a customer car that came in pissing oil. My junk doesn't have that on the engine.
