Worst advice of the thread right here (unless trolling, if so carry on).

My brother in law got a great dane, because he's lazy, etc. but the dog is actually not well suited to that lifestyle. That, plus the fact that due to their size they have a ridiculous rate of health problems and reduced lifespan....PLUS the hair and drool? No thank you.
LOL exactly what I said about my Dane.. shes an idiot! hah ive got a camera on her right now and shes trying to dig her way out of her kennel.

My BIL's dog literally broke out of one of the steel cages, and dug/ate through the middle of a bedroom door on another occasion. It's like small dog separation anxiety in a 150lb package

Don't get me started on the stories he's got about that dog getting the shits because it has a sensitive stomach.

Everytime I research a breed, it seems like every fucking one has hip dysplasia issues.

That chart is odd, I really don't understand their scoring lol. Somehow a Pug, a dog that can barely breath on its own is not near the bottom. I love pugs but fuck, seriously. And Corgis and Dachshunds, dogs that defy physics and really should break in half when they start walking score pretty well. Then a Bernese is well below all of those. Like wtf
Berner's are renowned for living to like 7, allergic to everything, and every joint fall apart..

Mutts are where it's at anyway. Especially a mutt x mutt cross.

i have a schnoodle (half poodle and half Schnauzer). Very smart dog and easy to train but is high energy, I have left him alone for 10hrs but when i come home i make sure to play fetch with him in the hallway for about an hour. That usuallly burns his energy. Also, if you put your dog in a closed off area when you're not at home you can hide treats in random places and let them search for them. The mental stimulation is often better than the physical exercise.

I really dislike pugs and bulldogs and have never found them appealing.

Ive been looking at this as well. I was thinking about a dog. But not sure if any would be suited for a condo.

Awful. Would never own a dog in a condo.

Pugs are the ugliest, dumbest looking mouth breathing thing on 4 legs. Literally the Gestalt of garbage bred dogs.

i will say this - corgis are chick magnets especially as puppies but even when they are grown. So if you're single, highly suggest you consider them.

Plus they are actually amazing dogs.

Great Dane would be a great option as on the summer day you can just ride the damn dog to work if it's relatively close. lol. That and $40 or so worth of food every week that they consume. I like full sized dogs like Doberman, German Shepherds, Golden Retrievers etc., however, the wife likes more medium sized dogs like Shiba Inu. Are there any breads out there that are like Shiba Inu's aesthetically but not as hyper and energetic otherwise? Not a fan of pugs, I mean I love all dogs, but just don't find pugs cute. lol. Same with Chihuahua's and other little dogs that look like rats. Or the sausage dogs aka hot dogs. What are some other dogs that are generally lazier with a more easy going/independent temperament?

I'm gonna get shit on because i like little dogs. But i would suggest either a yorkie or a chihuahua. After having bigger dogs i dont know if i could go back. With little dogs everything is easier, travelling just bring them, need to bath them just throw them in the kitchen sink, your little buddy had an accident no need to grab a shovel just get a Kleenex, and if you wanna let them sleep in the bed they take up about half as much room as a bigger dog. Both have extremely low actively levels and you can easily play with them indoors, both my little guys hate being out doors and do their business and run back to the door.

Agreed small dogs are way better. I probably won't ever own a dog over 40lb.

Yep, came from Rotties and Labs, as much as I miss the big guys, I have grown to enjoy the ease of a small dog.

I’d be too paranoid walking a rat dog at dusk... too many coyotes in this city

    This.
@shakalaka According to the description of your life style and condo environment, a small dog seems like the way to go for you. Maybe a Yorkie or a Shi Tzu?

and like the majority of small dog owners I seem to run into on walks, just dont bother to train them. At best their little nutcase is just gonna scratch! There has been like 5-6 times they are quite lucky my mutt doesn't react poorly to being attacked by a 10lb ball of fury and bite back
