I don't recall me or my SO getting a notification. Like you said, still a good deal overall.

I just switched to Zoomer (Rogers) for their $36 4gb plan. 2 year contract with $0 LG G5 and $50 referral bonus.

Their deal is worst this year. So it's normalizing and becoming the BIG 4. Enjoys this while you can and grandfather as long as possible.

I am holding on to mine due to 1GB/mth Canada/US roaming that they have fully removed from any offering.

It wasn't bad this year. Instead of the 35% discount it was 25%
Works out to be $45/month. Not bad if you're looking for something cheap

    Mine is "unlimited US roaming"
But throttled AF after 1gb now.

So what I'm learning is that while I certainly don't have the best plans, I'm not actually that bad off. Currently for my wife and I we are paying $130/mo and that includes some device balance from my Galaxy S7. So something like $55/mo average without device. Might look into the sub $50 plans, but don't expect huge savings.

Current offers for new telus customers appear much worse than what I'm paying. $80/mo BYOD minimum. Gross.

Koodoo has a $50/mo BYOD that would be fine for me.

It is too bad that you hadn't created this thread 2 weeks ago.

Koodo had tons of boxing day deals. They had a 4 gb plan with unlimited calling and text for 45$ per month. And that was available as a BYOD or tab small/medium.

Wonder if Telus will price match koodoo plans through retention once my device balance/contract is up? Not the boxing day plans, but just whatever the current plans are.

    I don't see how that's better than Public's $40/mo with 4.5GB (5GB with auto pay):
    https://www.publicmobile.ca/en/ab/plans

Same network. Public's also got a great US roaming package too. It's the only reason why I didn't switch to Koodoo.

Too bad you didn't ask this 2 weeks ago. You would have a $25 referral bonus for both yourself and whoever referred you.

I signed up in August and right after they had a promo to try and get people to transfer over to Koodoo from Public and they gave you a bunch of credit or something. My suggestion is to sign up for Public and wait for that to come again if you want to go to Koodoo.

Edit: Link to Public-Koodo migration deal

Okay, that public mobile $40 plan offer is very good.

I believe it's LTE reception throttled to 3G speeds?

I like PublicMobile's offering. Gets cheaper with time and cheaper the more friends join. I am down to $25ish a month for 4GB of LTE with minutes and text.

Yeah, it's faster than actual 3g in terms of latency. Actually sounds like no issue for me. This whole public mobile offering sounds really compelling.

Yea, I don't know why anyone would agree to that:

Theoretically, HSPA has a maximum download speed of 7.2 megabits per second and a maximum upload speed of 1.4 megabits per second
Best case scenario is basically 720p streaming for any video. Web and software bloat has gotten so bad, 3g would be brutal in this day and age.
