“Straight roads are for fast cars, turns are for fast drivers.”
It's worth pointing out again that our own government (CRTC) colludes with the big telecoms to our disadvantage.
For example Canadian laws do not allow permanent roaming, so your foreign sim card/esim will stop working after a few months here in Canada. There has to be some information shared between the "notoriously competitive" Telecoms in order to disable a device across all networks, and in this case they seem rather cooperative.
Does public mobile have wifi calling in Canada? Was going to switch my parents over but their house is in a bit of a dead zone and they need wifi calling for in the home.
Made the switch to Koodo last week from Public Mobile, quite nice to have RCS/MMS back. Their website is a bit frustrating, if something screws up on a form you have to start all over, like a video game with no continues haha. Also doesn't play well with Google Messages, when I have that going on PC my texts on my phone no longer make an alerting sound, very annoying when I step away from my PC while it's still running. Damn trade offs for saving $30/month.
I have RCS on public. Is that device specific?
I don't think public has WiFi calling. Although I'm not certain.

99% sure it's device specific, they 'broke' it for a lot of phones in February (old & new, cheap & high end). My rants are probably a few pages back now. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Yeah I rembered. So weird. Worked on pixel and Samsung. Ah well.
My love affair with Public is fading since the costs went up significantly when they changed the rewards program. My family bills went up ~$35/mo with that change.

It's a big fat no as of early 2023. Not sure if they implemented it since. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Also only Freedom allows Wifi calling outside of Canada. Telus doesn't allow that either.

Canadian mobile data usage hits a record of... only 7.92GB per month. A lot of Canadians are paying for way more data than they really need me thinks.

Well when your options are:This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
1) $25/month for 500mb with $5/each 1 GB overage
or
2) $29/month for 30 GB
Doesnt help that everyone and their dog in this country are functionally retarded and have a nasty habit of running to CTV News when they go over their plan limits and get a big bill.
The cell phone companies are just saving Canadians from themselves.

It's a form of insurance against overage.
One of the reasons I like prepaid plans for kids and teens. No potential for overage.

e-sim market opened up competition a bit. It's not hard to find e-sim that'll give you $1 per GB if you are not picky on the network. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
So if the teleco doesn't want to lose your business to e-sim providers, they'll have too meet/exceed that metric. If they want to keep you around for $50/mth, they'll need to give you 50GB min.
Also, given average person only uses 8GB, it's not like people are cashing out what you promised. It's not like IRL streaming that popular in Canada to drive that kind of traffic.

6 month update on public, a bit of a pain in the ass to activate, smooth sailing since.
I'm very salty about the change in reward program and how much that increased the monthly cost for my family.
