Anyone see decent deals for 5G plans during Boxing Week?
Anyone see decent deals for 5G plans during Boxing Week?
Yeah. Probably the easiest.
Heard there was some good deals at Mobile Shop at Superstore too
Just switched back to Rogers from Telus.
2 lines byod, 105Gb each shareable (210 total), Canada and US, $40 each. With a $100 one time bill credit. No contract
They also have a can/US/mexico for $5 more which was tempting, but don’t think we are going down to Mexico any time soon so figured I’d save $10 a month and I’ll just roam if we do.
This was through Rogers Preferred (Telus EPP equivalent) so your company has to be listed:

Hard to beat this for a Canada/US plan.
Have to be new customer and not existing Rogers? This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Just signed up for Public Mobile myself. They kept advertising 40gb for $34 for last few weeks for boxing week, but I waited for boxing day to apply, hoping to get an even better deal, and guess I tried too early, because I did switch on the 26th in the morning, but a few hours later they bumped the deal up to 50gb. Oh well, up to this point I have been on a 4GB shared plan with Zoomer wireless (Rogers)....and it was basically enough as I don't use any data as I have a dual-sim phone and user my corporate sim for the data portion, but my wife has been running out of data ever since she started working the night shifts and spending more time on the phone, so we switched mainly for her benefit.
So far, no complaints. 5G speeds seem to be faster than I get on Bell 5G from corp sim. I travel from time to time to the states and internationally, but I have full roaming package from my corporate sim, so I just use that when travelling, don't need anything like that for my personal service. All in all saving about $8 a month with 10x the data at 5G speeds for two lines, good enough for me. No contract so can switch anytime if I find something else, but really, I don't bother unless I need something that Public doesn't offer.
I purposefully stay away from the big companies, regardless of how good of a deal they give you, because they always find a way to fuck you, don't have time for no games.
@ExtraSlow , I could not find your referral code in the years of old pages. Link it up again if you have it as I see you as the PM Beyond Ambassador, lol.
Shameless plug for my referral code if someone does not want to wait: VLNK4Z

Referral code is 88M4Y9 if you want. Thanks for the reminder. Sometimes this gets the referee some bonus.

Any issues with Public Mobile network and roaming?
Not sure, if you call in their wait time is not too bad if you wanna ask them. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
They are also offering a pixel 8 for $5 more a month for 24 months. Device is fully owned after 2 years (not bring it back/lease). They just texted me this morning asking if I want to add it and I went ahead with it. I think a pixel 8 should be worth at least $500 so a pretty good deal for $120 over 2 yrs.
That's a good deal for a Pixel 8.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Has anyone gone from having 5G back down to 4G/LTE to get a cheaper plan? I currently have 5G with Rogers but I'm not a big data user. I wonder if 5G is worth the extra $20/month I'm paying right now compared to the 4G/LTE deals out now.
Well it's the Telus network. Public Mobile is a sub-brand of Telus. Roaming operates just like any Telus plan within canada. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

K thanks. I was reading some horror stories on Reddit (lol) about Public Mobile. But that deal they have is super tempting. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Roaming outside Canada can be a problem depending on your plan. Because it's a prepaid service, you need to be subscribed before you go, you won't be billed afterwards like mainline brands.
Example, I have a Canada USA plan and on my last trip to Mexico, my phone did not connect to local cell network down there. I can see where that might be surprising to some people. I don't find it problematic.

It's a bit of a mindset shift, I can see people getting confused and angry. People are like that.

I see. I'd probably use Airalo or something when roaming. Looking at my usage I never break 1Gb of data each month. Usually around 800mb. I'm actually tempted to get that Public Mobile $24/month 4GB plan but it's 4G/LTE. That would save me $35/month. Just not sure if I'll hate going back to 4G/LTEThis quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Not sure why you wouldn't go this plan and it's $5 discount on top for 2 yrs.
So $29/month. Plus your airarlo for US travel is covered.
Splitting hairs at this point on cost benefits.
Public made it too easy for me to switch. No hassle, I was shocked how quick it was.
Switched to Public Mobile from Bell yesterday.
I signed up around noon on boxing day for their 40GB for $34. 6 hours later, saw on their website the offer went to 50GB. I put in a support request, and they were extremely helpful. Got everything moved over to the upgraded plan. No fuss porting or anything.
Just signed up for Public Mobile plan. Just waiting on the SIM card in the mail now. Didn't want to try eSim haha.
This will save me about $35/month compared to my current Rogers plan.
eSim is the best.
