I don’t sign contracts either, but even at 70 it appears to be a fairly good deal as I found out today as I looked around.

Koodo called me the other day: $75/month for 15 GB and unlimited everything in Canada. I don't use that much data and my 10gb for $60 is already more than I really want to spend on a phone plan.

I'm on the $60/10GB plan with Telus. Have not received a letter from them yet but probably will.
I guess I will be in the market for a new plan as well. Looking over past bills, I am mostly under 5 GB per month without being even slightly careful about my usage.
Looks like Freedom has now expanded to have better coverage for the outer limits of Calgary where I live. Might be worth the switch? 7GB for $50 (and -$10 BYOP discount for 12 months... ).
Pretty sure the reason why they were able to hike the price was because it’s not a contract plan. If it was, they can’t jack the price up.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Yeah it's a bring your own device plan so they can raise prices at will unfortunately. My $40/4GB with Virgin costs me $45 a month now but it's still a better deal than I'd be getting elsewhere. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Received the letter today. Why does $70 seem so much more $$$ when it comes to a cell plan
Because everywhere else in the world, that's the price for your entire family's phone bill.

If they're doing that it must be the BYOD / non-contract plans. There would be no point of a contract if Telus could just change the price. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
On a related note, Fido hasn't once changed one of my BYOD plans in the 10+ years I've been off contract.
Oh man we get hosed so bad with cell plans here but it is what it is.
Still paying $60 with Rogers, 10gb, unlimited everything.

call and complain and they will give you 15g for 70, or 6gig for 65. not pumped about either, its sad but i remember paying 35 for a phone plan and that was alot back then. haha
i'm going to wait it out for a bit and see if they offer something better or try and lock in a plan somewhere else.
yes $10 isn't much and the plan is still very good. doesn't mean i have to be happy. sucks being stubborn
Just went through this, online rep knew exactly why I was contacting, no need to even complain. I come no where near using 10GB, but if i'm paying the $70 regardless, I at least want the option to use 15GB. In and out in less than 5 if anyone hits the online support. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I don't know why this is irking me so much, I expense my bill anyway

Telus is offering 15gb/$70 for customers.

$60 for 10gb is insanely awesome price wise compared to where we were 5 years ago. There were no unlimited calling packages. Used to be the fab 10 calling 200 min and 1 GB data for $70.
The people that should complain are those paying $140 for their plans while not dealing with retention departments.
But that also came with my supercool Moto RAZR on a 3 yr contract! This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
the good old razor!! I dont get some who are complaining over a minor increase to the cell plan when its unlimited calling and 10gb+ of data. Yeah go switch to freedom to get less data and save 10 bucks...
Theres actual concerns with pricing of in market plans but your retention plan going up a few bucks isnt one of them.
We are miles ahead on pricing compared to 5+ years ago. Back then we would have been happy to have unlimited incoming calls!
If Wind hadn't come along, we'd probably still be there.

Overall i think people have a bad memory on what we got for $50 to $60 before. I remember data packages being $25 for 4 mb. That didnt include your caller I'd and voicemail for $12. Your system access for of $8 plus your crappy cell plan for $45. A plan like that meant you had $60 in overages + charges for international text or long distance(that wasnt included back then).
Overall there are some competitive options.
I'm with Rogers, had to wait in queue online for roughly 35 minutes but managed to get 3gb extra for that $5 increase in price.
Unlimited everything 13GB / $65 (x2 same plan for my wife)
Meanwhile, my India plan costs $9 CAD a month, gives me 75GB a month shared between 2 phones, and unused data rolls over so I have 200GB sitting there waiting to get abused. Oh it also comes with Netflix and amazon prime.
To be fair, our service and coverage is much better here, but they’re catching up. I get 30mbps without issues, stream everything on it without issues.
