Some comments online seem to suggest you cant use WhatsApp to make calls if you're in Public? Sounds absurd to me but any truth to this?
Not true at all. WhatsApp and other data services operate normally.

Some people on RFD are saying prices are going up for plan with various providers if you are on BYOD and not locked in. If one company up their prices people will go to another provider unless they collective do that same rate hike.
Public and others are still running boxing day promos too of you want to switch.

I also found out Public Mobile starts after you activate your physical SIM so you don't need to rush to start your plan. Those couple days it takes to come in the mail doesn't matter. But yes you can transfer your number.

Public is the easiest porting ever, even easier with eSim.
That's even better. I thought the two lines that I purchased at Public Boxing Day deal were already running but they won't until I actually activate it. Which I plan to as soon as I get them but still good to know.

I think I will be good now, my two personal lines (wife and me) are going to be at 34/month each and 40GB data and unlimited Canada wide and my work line will be $50/month with everything same except unlimited Canada-US plan. I notice now the cheapest Canada-US line even with Public and 5G data is $65 so it's a deal. I don't use US much but I don't want to give it up. lol

Okay I see why Public gets shitty reviews on customer service. So my first of the 3 new SIM's that I ordered arrived and that's my work line so I went to the portal and changed the SIM from old to the new one (and also wanted to change the phone number) so all done. Portal shows the new SIM is in place and I have a new number and yet when I insert the SIM in my phone nothing at all happens. Like it doesn't exist.

Tried restarting, airplane on/off and even another iPhone and absolutely nothing. So clear the SIM isn't working and I am paying for it a week a half in and I can't seem to get any customer support. Submitted a 'ticket' and I guess just gotta keep fucking waiting.

Is that ticket through the community forums? That's the best place for support. Describe the problem 8n as much detail as you can on there and people will chime in.
I can't help, never had any issues so I don't have any idea of troubleshooting.
Thoughts and prayers. Hope it gets resolved.

If you need a replacement Sim. Try walking in to a Telus store. Same company, and they should be able to replace Sim for you in person

I already got a replacement SIM, paid for it online and it came. Before it arrived I went on the portal and found a better suited number for work and since previous number wasn't really given to anyone changed it. Then got the SIM and went on the portal and registered the new SIM and it should be as simple as that but here we are. Yea the support ticket is apparently through the community. Tried browsing there too but couldn't really find anything.

Now I have 2 more SIM's on the way for mine and wife's personal lines and I am not contemplating just throwing them in garbage and sticking to my Telus numbers on that side.

Sounds frustrating. Agree I wouldn't swap the other numbers until you had the first one working.

I have heard people have problems with mainline carriers too. I dunno.

Yea I think the big difference is you can call the other companies and talk to a real person and here the chat is your only recourse. But someone is replying to my 'ticket' so I guess let's see if they can sort this shit out.

It came in a bag of rice from the factory, so I assumed that wouldn’t be the issue.

Rogers winback keeps calling me. 3x a day. I should pick up one of these days and see what's the offer. If it's $20 for 50GB 5G and some sort of bill credit, they'll get my business.

I got a $10 credit on my Public Mobile account. I think it's from using a referral code. It was either Disoblige or Extraslow's. I can't remember. Thanks to whoever it was!

So my issue finally resolved. The chatting rep eventually asked me to just buy a new SIM and to provide with receipt and he credited my account with the cost. Sure enough, new SIM worked no issues. My other 2 lines also on there now as I was able to transfer my original numbers (mine and wife). So basically all our 3 lines are with public, 2 of them are at $34/line for 50GB data and unlimited Canada wide. And 1 of them is at $50/month for 50GB data and unlimited Canada-US (will be good when traveling). Canada-US plan now is like $65 from what I thought so I figured I will hold on to that one.

Man it feels good to be thrifty for a change. Haha.

I'd like to thank beyond for putting my kids through college with all these $1/mo referrals.

How does Koodo compare to Public for service/reception/data speeds etc.?
