Default Garage Door - Shutting issues

Garage door is being really funky, will go down 6-12" then stop and go back up. Does this 5 or 6 times before it finally closes, so dont think it's the laser (could be though?)

How do i troubleshoot so it works first go?

Usually IS the laser in my experience. It may need to be re-positioned or it may have something partially blocking it (sun/debris?).

To check the laser put your foot in front and see if you have LEDs that go on/off when there is something in the way. Then try closing the door and see how they behave. Realign if necessary.

However to me it sounds like it might be binding a bit and tripping the resistance stop. My garage door opener will stop when something crosses the laser and doesn’t move up, when it hits something it will stop and reverse which is why I’m guessing that it’s the resistance stop getting tripped on yours.

Quick fix is to crank up the resistance slightly until it closes first try. Next would be to investigate why it’s binding, is it iced up? Are the rollers binding? Etc

Im suspecting it's the resistance stop too.. will be playing with it, but have never played with a garage before

On mine at least it’s just a knob that you turn with a flathead. I had to adjust mine slightly due to it being sensitive to even the smallest amount of snow.

Most likely needs an alignment. Photoeyes can be just far enough off that it's lit but isn't (60hz flicker) and most being mounted to the track it only takes a minor shake to twist it out of alignment.

In another thread it was reccomended to me to close the door, pull the emergency disconnect handle, then manually raise and lower the door and see if it's binding at any point or wildly out of balance. That's a pretty easy test, and requires no tools.

You realize you are talking to the guy who made his own furniture out of salad bowls right?

Definitely sounds a lot like a resistance issue. My one bay door would always do it in winter when it got cold, the track would constrict just enough to cause enough binding in the door that it would trip open. Just had to turn up the juice on the back of the box a bit so it would power through.

Bumped resistance a couple days ago and seems to have addressed it
