Get a free quote from Pete the Plumber. I just had them in to install a new hot water tank at my place and was happy with their services. They are the biggest buyer of Rheem products in Calgary so they actually have really good pricing for the units themselves (def hot water tanks - i assume tankless Rheems they get good deals too). they may be a bit more expensive on labour than other companies but i figure the savings on the unit itself balances out against the labour. Not to mention the fact you get a professional reputable company and a solid warranty to boot.

I thought the general consensus was that tankless sort of sucks?
Every thread about it so far on Beyond (there have been several) has come to that conclusion that I have seen. The idea of them is awesome (unless you have a teenager taking 45min showers lol) but not many people seem to like them because they are expensive, they don't last and are unreliable.

My buddy runs Horizon Heating & Cooling; wouldn't hurt to get a quote from them.

Yeah you can payout a few standard hot water tanks for a tank less.
But if you like feeling warm and fuzzy for saving environment then go ahead and do it.

I replaced my tank 6-7 years ago with a tankless and love it. Our gas bill has gone down and I never run out of water. It has a smaller footprint that our old tank and hangs nicely on the wall out of the way..I bought a Rheem from home depot and installed it myself and it wasn't to big of a deal to do while I was finishing my basement. As far as lifespan I dont have many concerns, I installed service valves and once a year circulate vinegar through the tank and have actually seen very little mineral content in the returns. The only issue we've had is on windier days the heater gets a blast of air up the intake and it kicks off from the pressure change, this has maybe happened 3 times since installation..

Possible, but being detached and already on the small side would be less than ideal.
