All the way to forthills obviously, where the road ends. I dont consider syncrude even that far out of town.
It wasn't obvious, that's why I asked. I'd assume that based on traffic volumes there just hasn't been enough justification to spend the infrastructure dollars to twin it that far.

This will murder people on the roads. Hwy 63 north of town will be a graveyard.
    Exactly my thoughts as well.

The highway will be an even bigger shit show with severely tired people on the road...

Syncrude has a camp, but it's basically just for shutdown workforce.
    No they don't.

And Ruth Lake Lodge (the cleanharbours camp) is dry according to the paperwork you sign on check-in, they just don't enforce it.

What do you mean by the "whole way"? It is twinned all the way to Syncrude now, has been for some time. I think it is even twinned past that point now. Other than Syncrude Aurora traffic there shouldn't be much going past base site.

Shell Albian made the switch to dry awhile back.
    Conoco camp isn't dry.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but you'll have to explain to me what the big brown camp is directly outside the maingate of Syncrude is? That has lights on, and as far as I can tell based on the back parking lot, people staying there?

Honest question, I just drove by it this morning. If its not a camp (or in use) why does it still look like it is in use?

Off the top of my head besides Nexen, this would affect the Clean Harbours camp previously mentioned, the Civio (sp?) Camp that was bought by one of the producers that is near the Ft Mckay turnoff, and CNRL Albian camp is 72km from downtown.

In addition, uh no, H63 is not twinned after Syncrude from Syncrude to CNRL Albian or Suncor FortHills, which this bylaw would affect the most as Syncrude already had a policy of requiring employees to live in FtMac. The turnoff before Syncrude to head to Ft McKay would be nucking futs if this occured.

TBH I have no idea why they keep the lights on. It is (or more accurately was) definitely a camp, but it has been mothballed for a number of years now, and slated for demolition. The only use it's seen in recent years has been during the wildfires when Syncrude housed some people there who were fighting the fires or without a home, etc. It is in no way used to house workers during a shutdown or otherwise.

The parking lots near the camp are all parking for employees that drive in from town. I can say with a high degree of certainty that camp isn't used at all.

There's quite a few camps up there that it would affect, i.e. Horizon North has a couple within the radius IIRC, and Civeo operates a handful of locations including the Suncor Base Plant one which is pretty big.

How many big camps are within 75 km?

Move them 75.1 km away from Fort Mac?

The city can't honestly think people will actually move there...
some dude on CBC said there are 60 camps. About 30K workers.

He also said that Ft Mac can't handle having 30K more people in town. Nobody actually did any analysis before coming up with this plan.

Analysis, research, facts, economics. None of these things seem to matter to any level of modern politician. It's all feel-good emotion based, and the people seem to love it. At least the voting ones it seems, it's everywhere now.

I lived in FMC when they didn’t have the overpasses built, if you didn’t make it out of town by 7am you just didn’t go to work because trying to get on the highway was a nightmare with the traffic lights.

I can maybe see a similar thing happening with a huge influx of people again.

I haven't worked for Syncrude in about 7 years now. Did they tear their camp down?

Being that I was born in Fort Mac and lived there for 30 years, I have an awful lot of Fort Mac residents on my FB. So I see the news article sharing and the retarded comments that go along with them. This is 100% an emotional play by Don Scott to appeal to the residents who are upside down on their mortgages(ie: Fucking everybody).

Heard on the radio this morning driving to site (this research project is killing me, 16 hour days and -30*c ambient) that the RMWB council voted unanimously to pass the motion.

This is actually kind of nice for me, I already mostly stay in hotels when I have to travel, this will effectively kill off camp for me except Kearl.

It's nice that your hotel accommodations will now jump in price? I don't follow.

    Clients pay, I don't

    Edit-
As for getting a hotel, it would be no different than the boom days. Only hotel booked solid nowadays is the new Sawridge because its pretty damn good.

I just didn't understand why you said "This is actually kind of nice for me" If you already stay in hotels and not camp, how does camp closures affect you in a positive way?

    My personal issues aside....

We really need to find out where the start point is for the 75km radius. I'm assuming it is downtown.

The motion reads 75km DRIVING distance. So there are many camps within that, and some not within it.
    Looking around
    Wondering what became
    Of what I once knew
