I really like the white PLA sample that came with the Ender 3, but I am unsure what kind of PLA it is. The sample PLA printed nice and it feels pretty hard and impact resistant vs the generic grey PLA, 1.75 0.02+/-, I picked up from Amazon. The Amazon PLA feels lacks the hardness and doesn't seem to be as durable...

What is everyone opinion on PLA, PLA+, and or PLA Pro?

Initial run on the 'original' hatchbox was because it was supposed to be what that sample was purported to be. Pretty sure it's not - hell half the hatchbox pla out there is probably fake.

run the cheapest stuff you can find while you learn 99% you'll just run the usual stuff, so pick some colors (realize the color totally effects print quality) get in the habit of running a temp tower with new filament.

Alright, spool3d got the Ender 5 Plus in stock. Grabbed one.

Now I am reading it is loud and needs a Mobo upgrade. lol. Is it really that bad?
So I never picked up the Ender 5 Plus. Decided I didn’t need another hobby. Wife then asked if we should get one for the kid. Ended up getting him a CR6-SE.

Holy shit does it take long to print. This little model of a Pokémon Eevee (that was included on the included SD card) is taking nearly 5 hours to print.

Is this thing just slow? I didn’t set anything other than leveling the bed and then hitting print!

Yes they're all slowish. Yes you can choose options to make them less slow.

No upgrades aren't needed out of the box. People telling you that's "needed" are probably those earning a living from parts sales.

Richard Cleveland @ the first layer, has some pretty good introductory videos. I gotta bug him about that they didn't jump out at me on first look.

Did you print it solid? Or did you mean it?

Can't remember what the fill percentage was, but it definitely wasn't solid.

What are y'all using for remote monitoring? I don't have a spare wyze crotch camera laying around...

I put mine in the basement and my watch says I climbed 46 floors yesterday

Got an Ender 3v2 for Christmas and have gone a little crazy over the last few months. Mine's in the basement and I'm using a Wyze cam to monitor; it was just easiest. I'll be getting some additional V3s when they're available to replace this one elsewhere in the house anyway.

I designed my own mount for inside the Lack table leg right at the perfect bed level. (and I moved the screen from the right side to left side in between taking these two pics!)

Obviously this setup is for personal use, not business like @pheoxs or @AndyL , so I had to do the cabinet in such a way as to not be an eyesore knowing that houseguests may be walking right past it.

Well, this is silly. 9 hours into a 20 hour print and I’m running short of filament. Ordered some from Amazon for delivery tomorrow.

How long can I pause a print for? Doe the bed and nozzle just stay hot the whole time it’s paused?

    CR6-SE.

I've never paused a print for more than maybe 15 minutes, but my bed and filament always cool down as soon as pause is pressed. I think it's actually BETTER for a longer pause, because if everything stays hot, and you put new filament in, then the printer tries to start printing before the new filament is sufficiently warmed up. By letting everything cool down, then the new filament is heated up to the right temp along with the bed and everything, before the printer starts to rejoin the piece.

Just gotta make sure to leave the printer on of course...

What I'm curious about is what people do with their wasted filament (PLA)? I've heard it's compostable, but not easily, and also recyclable, but not easily. So do you just chuck it and feel ok that it breaks down faster than other things or do you do something else?

Well, I failed to restart. Haha. The bed wasn’t warm enough to hold the print and the first pass had the bottom half knocked onto the floor.

Decided to finally benchy my printer after printing a lot of stuff.

Looks like I need some adjustments for these bridges. Most of the benchy came out great.

Any of you pros have suggestions?

    Guessing cura as a slicer?

My first eyeball says you need to tweak PID tune, and probably extruder steps/mm. Might be just a smidge hot for that filament. Tweak and print again, if those blobs are still in the corners add .15 or so of coast.

    Thanks.

Better slicer? Just used Cura as it seems to be common.

I find this guide is fairly helpful regardless of using S3D or a different slicer.

Bear hunting later this week and couldn't find a browning rail anywhere on the planet close to me. Fuck it 3D print it. https://i.imgur.com/GSO36oG.jpg

Sighted in and shot 20 round thru it. Perfect. With spare. https://i.imgur.com/FTmdkWN.jpg

Wondering if someone here could help me print something and quote what it could cost.

    https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4207807 – playseat_brace_v2_notch_6.stl is the file.

    Thanks!

Using average quality print and cheap materials (PLA), software tells me it's about 7 hours of electricity and ~$2 in materials.
Not sure if you need something of more strength (ABS?) in which case I have some material but I've got no successful prints with that on Ender 3.
