    Default Water Softener

Looking to get a water softener for my house. Saw the Costco one for $500 (cheaper in store)
    https://www.costco.ca/Watts-Premier-...100411451.html

Any beyonders have it? Most of the websites say to look for 2 piece units, seems to be a hit/miss with the single piece units

I think the benefit of dual tank is that you can have softened water when one tank is being recharged. We don't use that much water and we have a slightly larger tank than we actually need so it's never an issue with the schedule recharge at night.

I just installed this one. https://www.lowes.ca/water-softeners...ater-softening

Actually got it for only $630 a few weeks ago because of a 10% off everything online sale. It has much better reviews than the one you're looking at.

Was installation hard? I was looking around for a plumber to come do it and it averages between $220-$350 to come install it

Not difficult, but I'm a very DIY kind of person. If your house plumbing is all PEX and you don't have the tools, you're probably better off just hiring someone.

I bought a similar Whirlpool unit few years back. Ended up hooking it up myself. It's not that difficult. The toughest part for me was draining the line. It was taking forever then I found out that the main valve wouldn't shut off completely ffs. Added a bunch more valves and separate the outdoor lines from the softener. Shouldn't be much more than a weekend project for a semi decent handyman.

Basically every Canadian forum I asked told me to get this, from these people : https://www.aquatell.ca/products/fle...ner-by-aqualux
Dual tank is nice, but more expensive. Cheaper to just get an oversized one.

That’s what I got 7 years ago. Still going strong. Not a single hiccup.

The smaller Whirlpool one from Canadian Tire is fine. You size them based on going at least a week between recharges. And don't set the level so high that your water is super slippery.

I like slippery water. Saves on lube.

Any one have any experience with this unit? Seems okay for the price.

45K grains comes to mind. I think that is 1.5 cubic feet. But that is dependant on people and water use.

I used waterman.ca last year for my softener. A bit pricier compared to the costco one, but I believe its a better unit and installation included. Lots of beyonders have used him in the past.

Made a thread about softeners last year which might be helpful.

Got this one as well in 2011. It's been awesome. Chose the smallest size since its only for the 3 of us.

Secured the water softener from Costco. Watching youtube videos on how to install it and I think its out of my comfort zone.
    Anyone recommend a plumber?

    Thanks @nagooro for the thread!

How many of the beyonders here have a bypass for the kitchen cold? The bypass might not be do-able for me as my basement is developed. The added salt doesn't concern me as its minimal, I'm more worried about the taste
