Default Bike locks - what do you use?

Recently picked up a Giant Roam 2, looking for a lock now.

I doubt I will ever need to lock it for a full day, overnight, or more than say 5 hours.

Most of the time it will be if im riding by the river, canmore, or surrounding paved trails and stop for lunch or something.

    Any recommendations?

    Here's a few I was considering...

I grabbed one of these, super compact and comes with a holster that Velcro’s right to the frame

We use the Abus 6000. Nice and compact. Wife and I have the twin set so we use the same keys and was able to lock everything we needed when we had both bikes out.

We also used the Kryptonite 1415 New York Fahgettaboudit Chain at our old apartment when we left the bikes in the parkade. It's very heavy and not practical for travelling.

If you ever want a Kryptonite, CRC is the place to go:

Came across this video, makes me rethink the Abus Bordo lol (3:40)

Might just go with a Kryptonite U Lock w/ a cable and call it a day.

Pretty much any lock can be picked or cut. They are just deterrents and will depend how bad they want your bike.

Usually use both ABUS Bordon and Kryptonite short u-lock.

If they want the bike that bad they will take it. Just give them a bit more task, most thieves will pick out an easier target like cable locks.

Is there anyone in Calgary "knowledgeably" stealing bikes or is it mostly crackheads just grabbing whatever is easiest?

Even the best bike locks are super easy to defeat. Much like your house or a car, if a thief wants it, they are going to get it. Buy what's convenient because the deterrent factor is the same, or keep your expensive bike for the trails and use a less expensive bike to lock up in public.

Is it common for just a rear or front tire to be stolen? Wondering if a Ulock around 1 wheel/frame is sufficient or if a u lock and cable wrapped around the frame and both wheels is better?

Will prob order one of the three below.

Take your front tire off, lock it into the back tire and frame with the Ulock. Done

Happened to my brother with his bike parked downtown, and the best part was the thief left him a DIFFERENT wheel haha, almost as if they were trying to be nice. So wheel theft definitely happens.

Also if you guys are looking for decent cheap commuter bikes, there is a charity that sells some very decent bikes for cheap, and all the money goes to a good cause. Bike tech doesn't change that much so a well spec'd bike from 5+ years ago is still very good. Picked up a Kona hard tail with full XT and a higher end Fork for $150, originally would have been $1500+ 5 years ago or whatever.
