Thread title speaks for itself, I've got a 17 in laptop and we'll be doing a lot more airport travel this year.
What do people have and love that makes security simple but does a good job of carrying everything?

I’m more efficient than the Asians there, I have everything in a Samsonite Xenon 3 backpack which is good enough for a weeks worth of clothes (no suit). If I need a suit I’d carry it separately and hang it up front in the closet. The bonus is that it’s smaller than the allowable size, and fits when you’re caught on a segment with a regional plane with smaller overhead bins.

I assume the large?
Edit - doesn't look like it accommodates a 17 inch.....

I actually downsized from a large to a slim last year. Both work fine for how light I pack.

Surface Pro 4 and iPad Pro. I’ve actually carried both plus a 15” MacBook Pro on one trip. Fits fine but my back was not happy haha. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Just noticed 17” laptop, yea, I’d downsize that bitch. Your shoulders and back will thank me.

Can't, need all the monitor I can get when I can't add an external.

Why can’t you add an external? I’ve seen people carry a smaller laptop with a portable 15” screen. That’s another option, basically same as what I’m carrying with laptop + iPad.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

+1 for this. I carry around a 14" that's 5 years old and I hate how heavy it is when I'm travelling. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
OP: if you're adamant on getting the largest screen that you can get, they're starting to come out with machines like this for 2019 where they're stuffing a 17" screen into a 15" chassis.
Gimme a little more credit than that.

Hahahahaha that's so awesome
I'm sticking with the laptop I've got haha, it's what I picked! Now I need a bag!
Also Rage, I may still carry an external sometimes but only if I'm going somewhere where I know I don't have access to one. I'm working on blueprints and takeoff software, the bigger screen the better when I'm limited to one.

Take your laptop down to mec and see if it fits this.

I'm not in an MEC town but, appreciate it. I really hope to find one that's tsa-approved and isn't stupid looking.

I have been using these bags for the past few years. I don’t know if it would work for a 17” laptop, but wtf do you need a 17” laptop for nowadays anyway? These bags carry all of my stuff (15” MBP, iPad Pro, cables, etc.), I used duffle bags originally, but needed assigned pockets and compartments.

So much hate for the 17 in hahaha! I work on blueprints all the time, I wanted the most on board screen I could get!

I do also, it’s called zooming in and out. But seriously, my last 17” was with the MBP, but it was too difficult to find a good bad to fit it.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I'm old. That's my only defense.

JRSC00LUDE - I travel with a TUMI Alpha Bravo; the T-pass system works well for getting through security w/o removing the laptop. That said, I generally carry a 13" ultrabook and documents etc. When I had a 15" laptop, I used the TUMI Alpha 2 T-Pass backpack. It also gave enough space for toiletries and a spare change of clothes.
On longer trips including those requiring my suit; I'll add my Tumi Alpha international carry-on and it's easy enough to have enough clothes for a 3-4 week trip and everything else needed. For a week-long trip, I generally just use my Tumi 3-fold garmet bag and either the Alpha 2 backpack or the Alpha Bravo breifcase.
I avoid having checked-in luggage if at all possible.
