Default Negotiating on an RV purchase?

I am planning to buy a new trailer this spring, i know what i want, i found a few places that show having stock, its around $30k most places, what's the negotiation process like on something like this? is there a lot of wiggle room? I'd be arranging my own financing through the bank, i couldn't imagine having a 25 year payment plan that the trailer places offer.

There's huge room to discount from msrp, but a lot less from advertised prices. Many places advertise 10-25% discounts year round.

I think you'll have a better time negotiating sooner rather than later the spring.

Are you set on a single model/floorplan? How many dealerships carry it in Alberta?

i am open to ideas, but ideally i would have the bullet 247BH it ticks every box on my want list.

I have found it at gaurantee rv, and a little cheaper at a place called cactus rv in lethbridge

want list is as short and light as possible with everything in it (definitely under 30 ft and under 5500lbs)
    closed off queen bedroom
    bunks
    bathroom (with separate exit)
bunk storage to have the big bike door.

If you found a great deal are you ready to buy right away?

I was able to do my negotiating over email when I bought mine last winter. I went in and met the sales guy in person, got his card, emailed him a few times clarifying things. Brought my wife in on her lunch break to confirm (and left asap), then did all pricing discussions over email.
That's a lot of steps, but I think most dealers hate to negotiate by email, and those steps convinced my guy I was totally serious and ready to make a deal.

First step is likely an in-person visit or at least a phone call to get yourself the name and contact info for a sale person.

As for floor plans, that's really personal. I assume you mean the 2018 247bhswe? That's pretty nifty, and I like the exterior door direct to the bathroom. Means no room for outdoor kitchen however. Depends on your needs.

    That's a 7000 lb trailer once it's loaded. Not 5500 lbs.

I see cactus has the 2018 model. Ask when they'll be getting the 2019 of the same floorplan in and if there's a change to msrp between years.

Yeah i don't see a need for an outdoor kitchen for me personally, i set up a table and BBQ under the awning every time anyway, i like the second door to keep the traffic out of the trailer.

my 5500 was for dry, i know any trailer in this range will have 3500lb axles making it a max of 7k, and i am ok with that

from what i can see MSRP for this unit is 31k, so 28.5 is already a but of a drop, but they also sold one recently that was listed at 25k, i dont mind if i get a unit that sat on the lot for a couple years if it saves me some cash.

I once purchased an RV from Carstairs RV and they were excellent for sales and more importantly service. Sales guy I used has long since left but they were good and they do carry Bullet. Might be worth the drive.

And as mentioned above, I think the sooner you can try to work a deal the more willing they will be to move on price since once the snow is gone the foot traffic increases big time for them. Good luck.

thanks for the tips guys, got a deposit down on a trailer now pending viewing this weekend. Website price was $31k, found another place in med hat selling the same thing but a 2018 for website price 28,500, talked to them and they said they'd do $28,500 all in, so i took it back to the local place and they matched it for a 2019, so i think i did pretty good. Really looking forward to camping this year now going from a 17 year old 20ft Hybrid to a brand new solid wall 29ft with a slide and winter package, should be nice.

Please consider buying a $50k one that's mildly used for $30k then use it for two years and sell it... For $30k.
The front end depreciation on these is MASSIVE and the used inventory is infinite every single autumn. My friend has bought and sold 3 within the last 5 years and literally not lost a dollar. I think he made $400 overall. Compare that with literally losing thousands, if not $10k+ within the next few years.
Sorry if you're heart is set on new, but dude it's so much more money.

i agree, over my 10 years camping i have bought, used and sold 3 untis and sold each, several years of use later, for more than i paid... but this time its different, this time it's our forever RV, so i am ok with the depreciation as we intend to have it for 20+ years, so we wanted to make sure that we got everything we wanted, and the only way to do that was to buy new.

Oh, good, OK. As long as you're going in with your eyes wide open. By all means carry on. It will be exciting to buy something new.

Isnt it! I window shop trailers all the time and have never seen one like it. Pretty much 3 separate rooms with 1 slide and the master bedroom has a full size ensuite. One guy on YouTube called it a trailer unicorn. That floorplan was only available between 04-09 from what I've read.

And to add to that, the couple we got it off sold it for what the dealership was gonna give them on trade! She had the ad up for an hour we were first, and 5 people within minutes after us.
