    Default 112mph, the new limit?

Right ahead of Geneva, sounds like 112mph is becoming the new speed limit for Euro manufacturers.

As long as you can shut it off for a track day, who cares.

This would have a much greater impact on motorcycle (sport bike) manufacturers/riders. When I rode bikes, I exceeded this regularly.

I can see this happening with E-bikes, but the purists who ride ICE bikes, will be bypassing this on day 2 of ownership - if there is a manuf. dumb enough to put this on a ICE bike without legislation.

112 = 180 kph, which is a fine limit for pax cars/trucks, but on most litre bikes, I can go 100-180kph in about 5-10 seconds and then back to 100 in 2.

Once again some horse shit being implemented in the name of "Safety"
Volvo announced on Monday that it will be limiting the top speed on all of its vehicles to 180 km/h (112 mph) in a bid to reduce traffic fatalities.
What percentage of traffic fatalities occur at less than 180km/h? I'm willing to bet nearly 100%

Drivers don't need speed limiters, they need to be BETTER DRIVERS. It starts with education.

^ Its all about OPTICS, rather than common sense.

Volvo wants to be SEEN as a manuf. who caters to this fear of death that many of their customers have.... for eg. they were working on (the XC90?) where they stated that they wanted it to be IMPOSSIBLE to die in..... which of course is completely ridiculous.... as crashing head on into a semi at highway speeds will almost guarantee this.

Japan has a limit of what? 160km/h? It’s always been as simple as snipping a wire to remove, newer cars are probably a piggyback though... but the technology is already there. 180km/h limit on my old mustang was super annoying on the straight at race city... getting passed by hondas then stuck in traffic trying to pass the whole way around again... rinse and repeat

Correct, but people will continue to suck at driving, and because of that, this happens.

See. I would rather have global warming wipe us all out in 12 years than put up with this bs

Honestly I can't even remember the last time I did 180km/h. So not like this would have any effect on my life. But the erosion of personal freedom is a bit unnerving. Right now it's a manufacturer doing some virtue signaling marketing. But eventually the government sees it and says "Hey! This looks likes a good idea" And starts limiting every vehicle on the road to anemic speeds.

Volvo has become the Justin Trudeau of auto manufacturers.

They work if you are okay with near industry worst reliability. The idea of Volvo has always been better than the reality.

Doesn't seem like this will affect 99% of the population, or anyone living outside Germany. Also the cars that this would actually matter for don't seem to be on any lists.

The only people I see driving that fast around here are in 10+ year old raised pickup trucks on the QE2.
