    Default Lifting flattened carpet

One of the bedrooms in my condo has a large flattened area. I can only imagine the person put the box spring right on the carpet. Now it looks like shit and a million years old.

I tried vacuuming it slowly and also vigorously but it seems to have done literally nothing.

Any tips or tricks for such a large area? Any tools machines?

Youtube has some videos with using ice cubes, i recall looking at it before. Also a steamer may do the trick?

Could try a carpet rake, have heard they work pretty well.

    Carpet rake, bam, done.
@eblend I saw those videos as well but I'm kind of concerned about how much ice I would need given the area is as at least as big as a mattress...

My Mom keeps telling me that a steam cleaner does clean but makes it easier to get dirtier and also flatten easier. Is that old wife's tales b/s or truth? I've been using a carpet cleaning product plus regular vacuuming between tenants. Carpet looks clean, it's a light grey and hasn't darkened. Just flattened as hell now.

Your underlay might be dead, and no rake will fix that. If this is a rental, just leave it. If you really want ti fixed, lift the carpet and install new, better underlay.

You realize you are talking to the guy who made his own furniture out of salad bowls right?

That would suck. The carpet and underlay were purchased new 5 years ago. Lets hope this rake can at least fluff it up a bit.

Steam cleaning makes it easier to get dirtier?!

Yeah probably because it's actually clean, so dirt starts to show on it.

I know right lol. I may end up hiring some professionals, cheaper than buying new carpet.

Edit: Wife's Tale confirmed. But get a good company.
