People won’t give a shit. If a ticket is $3 cheaper, they’ll take a MAX.

    Capitalism at work.

Cut corners to grow as big as you can. Become too big to fail. Worst case shit hits the fan and the CEO steps down with a big cushy bonus and the government steps in and bails out Boeing.
    That's not capitalism.

Boeing will end up splitting off their assets at some point. This is a good impetus, although probably not for 5 years.

Apparently the company will end up spending as much on the MAX debacle as the development cost for a new ship entirely.

Regarding the MAX and the NMA ship they have shelved, here is what I have heard:

    (rumours)

    - MAX might be stretched, landing gear extended, re-engined and fuselage modified into a NMA. New type certificate issued. No more MCAS.
    - 787 could be shrunk into a NMA ship (787-3), this was an option early on with the 787 but no takers at the time

One way to avoid negative stigma around 737-MAX aircraft is to call them something else.
    Smart.

Could the last four months have not been a better time to fix these things? WtF have they been doing?!?
Or, will scrapping them make sense in the #NewNormal with reduced air travel?

The bottom line after all the additions and cancellations in May is that Boeing’s net order tally for the year now stands at negative -602, consisting of 58 new orders, 322 jets formally cancelled and 338 jets taken out as no longer firm enough.

Boeing’s total order backlog is reduced to 4,744 airplanes. And the jetmaker has so far delivered just 60 airplanes this year.

Boeing still got 6 years of order in pipeline and Airbus got 10.

    My predictions back in January:

Chances are good that a) Boeing will rename the ship b) Boeing will end up in significant financial trouble (loans are already being secured) c) Other Boeing airline products will end up taking a bath in the FAA investigation.
    Just recently:

The Guardian reported that Boeing referred to the airplane as a Boeing 737-8 in a move away from the Boeing 737 MAX branding

Also the 787 had significant defects in workmanship uncovered.

Just a House committee report, confirming Boeing dun fucked, and also the the FAA were idiots for trusting Boeing to police itself.

with the loss of pax numbers, at least they can do all the work on the parked ships in the desert without AOG looming over their heads

Probably will be the safest aircraft to fly on now, at least for the short term.

I'd be more worried about any aircraft built in SC to be honest. Quality is so bad some airlines refuse to accept delivery of any aircraft made there vs Washington.

Looks like Canada isn't allowing the 737 max back yet

Pretty irrelevant considering we have no shortage of planes lying around in this country.

It would actually be an ideal time to fly them to come out of mothballs. Aircraft break when they sit. They break a lot. Running them now would get the kinks out before flying becomes normal again.

Also the fuel savings would be very beneficial to the airlines trying to find loose change in the couch right now.
