I guess maybe some people are more concerned about their credit score than others (obviously), but I have no real need to worry about mine so I don't. If it affects how I get to rent a place then I just look elsewhere.

No one said good credit is all that matters. It's a good indicator if someone's telling the truth with any conversations that were had. I've had renters explain bad credit history and that's fine...

We landlords get lied to on the daily and we need to sift through the bs.

If an applicant cant be up front before the credit check then Its a hard no before it gets there. One of the bigger slime balls I met refused the credit check, provided his own credit report and then spent a week yelling at me via text when I said his recent large money Mart loan was reason enough for me not to rent to him.

I was somehow the bad guy when he was clearly hiding stuff. He said me turning him down ended up better for him as he found a better place for less money. LOL. Makes me wonder how stupid some landlords are that they thought renting to some unemployed rig worker with a massive money mart loan would be a wise decision.

I've never pulled a credit report before but definitely talk to their employer and previous references in a pretty thorough way where either the person is beside them or gave a whole host of things on a piece of paper. Sometimes you gotta trust your gut and how the showing goes too.

Then again most tenants have worked downtown or at the hospital, and the urge to do a credit check hasn't been high enough to care. Hopefully that doesn't change.
