    Can be Manual or Auto, something with good cargo space for transporting dogs and children. Prefer if not hideous also

    Yes that's fine, it won't be a primary vehicle but reliability is key.

    I used to have a 2008 XB that I in hindsight should have kept - I know I said not hideous but I actually kind of liked the body style

    You can buy an older Jeep Grand Cherokee, for around that. I got my '99 as a beater, and it works well for pets.

    Not the worst unit out there, but a 4runner is definitely a better choice
