this is mind boggling... can someone explain how they are still getting transfer payments when they are posting surpluses?
Because that's not how transfer payments are calculated? lol

the formula is designed to give Quebec money for political reasons. no need to look beyond that really.

It’s basically about your tax potential. Alberta has more people working who are making more money than any other province so our tax potential is highest.

Point of note, every province receives transfer payments (even Alberta), equalization payments are a specific type of transfer payment.

Kindof a moot point when Alberta and Albertans are the ones who have sent them the money in the first place

Real kind of them to give us back our money.

Let’s try this instead. We stop giving the feds money, and they stop sending it back. See who comes out on top.

When you have ignorant people getting mad about transfer payments, they should at least understand the difference.

There is certain value in being in charge of your own tax collecting. If Kenney wants to follow the Quebec model, expanding the civil service to cover CPP, EI, provincial tax, etc. That of course means increasing the number of government employees, not reducing it, but it adds a certain level of security and leverage when it comes to such threats about ‘not paying’ (because Albertans can just not pay their taxes, but Alberta doesn’t have a way to collect them yet that doesn’t go through the Feds).

People should remember this when the Feds get control if even more of our tax dollars with the Carbon Tax repeal before a challenge is successful. Just giving Ottawa more control of Albertan’s money.

Sure, it somewhat contradicts his campaign rhetoric, but it's also a reasoned response. Initially, I was criticizing Kenney for it as well, but after a bit of thinking, I think it's unfair to jump down the guys throat for NOT being a dickhead about the situation.

I predict the Trans Mountain Expansion won’t be built during his term and he will blame the “Trudeau and Notley Alliance” for it even though it’s his own rhetoric and temper tantrums that cause things not to get done. And then he will be re-elected to another term.

Just imagine Notley saying the same thing.

Notley: "I agreed with the prime minister that they need to make sure that they cross every 't' and dot every 'i' when it comes to discharging the federal government's duty to consult."
Alberta: "Fuckin' bitch, colluding with Ottawa, dancing to Trudeau's fiddle."
    This is correct.

Frankly we won't really see much of anything said or done worth talking about until Christmas. This is government after all, policy moves glacially.

Well, he has soften his stance on carbon tax and say the Federal Carbon tax is better than Alberta one.

So he is playing ball since Trudeau punted TMX decision down a month once Kenney won, exactly what the major OG CEOs feared.

My guess is he will cancel $30/ton carbon tax in AB and just let backstop kicks in and hand over $10/ton to Trudeau instead. And cancel the rebate from AB and let Trudeau dish those out.

I don't think the lawsuit from the 4 provinces are playing out as expected so Sheer win in Oct is the only way to get rid of Carbon Tax.

That said, looks like Kenney already saved us $590M.

The delayed decision is fine. If they want this thing to be upheld in court then they have to show their due diligence to the extreme.

this is more or less my view. I'm actually impressed with how civil he's been so far with Trudeau, Horgan, Notley, Quebec Premier
