Yes but I agree that it's too big an assumption that AP voters would've all voted UCP if there was no AP. I think their Centre/Right position is actually closer to NDP than UCP. Back in the Wild Rose days, THAT was truly "dividing the right".
I know two people REALLY WELL that voted AP but were close to voting NDP. UCP was a more distant third choice.
I have quite a few friends who were the opposite. Didn't like Kenney, but didn't like Notley far more.

I think a lot of young professionals will be voting AP in the future. My network on friends mostly voted UCP this election purely to get NDP out, but would have voted AP had UCP been in power and NDP wasn't a question. 2023 will be quite interesting I think.

But other than the SJW stuff, I have high hopes for economic policies of UCP. Not sure if any of those would be shooting ourselves in the foot if Trudeau stay in power but just like Notley is not as left as she learn the job, I hope Kenney is not as far right as he is/was.
Kenney will be as far right as he needs to be to keep the religious groups in the party happy, ala Harper. He'll give them education, and hope that keeps them quiet for four years.

It's all downtown yuppies, union gov workers, and brown people. It's really weird because the Edmonton I know, it ain't liberal.
Yeah it is kind of weird. City center, Strathcona and Riverview make a lot of sense. outside of those ridings the Edmonton I know is hard working blue collar people that are more than a little rough around the edges and mostly hate the NDP.

Hope it’s not years of whining like in the US after Trump was elected. The salt was funny at first, now it’s just desperate, entitled and annoying.
Was it any different under Obama? My cousins in Alaska still believe he is a Kenyan born terrorist and are still crying about him and Hilary

Not the first time I've heard this said either. Unsure about it myself though...don't care anyway, such a great time to be moving back to AB/Calgary.

    WTG Weapon_R/Mikey, congrats.

You can't be serious. The difference between when Obama won and when Trump won, and the 2 years of constant noise is a difference from about a 1 or 2 on the dial, and a 10.

So, you've moved from "how" Covenant is funded to "why" Covenant is funded? Either way you're wrong. Both in the why and the how. It's all public information and not too hard to find.

Thanks for the conversation, it's been fun.
ROFL. “How” they’re paid? Um, direct deposit or cheques? No one does bags of money anymore.

I don’t associate with people who know Nenshi, so I wouldn’t know.

But if I was a betting man... I would go that direction yup.

And one thing I think a lot of people can appreciate (and at one point, liberals did ala the famous Trudeau comment "there's no place for state in the bedroom...") Is that if he is, he doesn't use that in any way for pity/political points. He's not actively parading his "partner" around, trying to adopt kids, and yelling from the rooftops about his personal life which we REALLY don't want to know about.

Its funny, on r/Alberta there are people talking about not feeling safe in public. How do you identify a GAY person?? What physical attribute does this? Nothing!

Nenshi is 100% hetero. He tries. Believe me he tries very hard to lose his virginity.

Me too, but it's funny. Just like the flood of asylum seeking Americans who were moving from the US after Trump, it's a bit drama-queeny that's all.

That's the downside to negative campaigns. People have to keep in mind that we have 80% in common when it comes to policies. Don't let the to 20% divide us.

I don't think anyone said dislike. His reaction is ridiculously way over the top. Literally nothing will change in his life except lower corporate tax rate on his trucking biz.

So of course we'll poke fun at him for that.

Yeah, one thing to remember is that the government changing doesn't change public opinion or the existence and experience of intolerance in society. If you were seeing regular intolerance before, that will continue.

Exactly this, people need to stop being so god damn dramatic.

Side note that I thought was funny, but the news about the Canadian immigration website going down after Trump's victory only made headlines cause the media was cherry picking details just cause it was Trump. My friends who work in immigration say that happens after every US election, regardless of who wins, including Obama, Bush, etc....

A good friend of mine was recently verbally assaulted and threatened for being gay by a passerby. So it does happen. Must have been noticed for dressing so damn well I suppose.

I don't doubt that it happens, but I do doubt that it happens more or less based on who is premier.
