NDP announce $25/day child care for everyone. Trying to buy those votes I suppose.

They've been aiming for that since they came into power. It's nothing new.

Don't know if I would want to put my career on hold and take a massive paycut. So I guess that's the problem with the current system.
Always been. Good people never runs for politics because there are more rewarding things with less scrutiny one could be doing.

    Old news?

My buddy from Mississauga is paying $1700/mth right now for day care. Not sure what Alberta parents pays ($1000/kid?) but it's quite a burden.

    Daycare is between $1200-1500

Dayhomes are between $800 and $1000

NDP haven't said if this will be granted towards dayhomes, so it might put a lot of those out of business if they don't.

UCP has been pretty bush league with the signs in my riding. Requested one twice and still nothing.
Me as well, and it's pretty pathetic. Very few UCP signs on my street and none on the boulevards. NDP signs were all up at once in my neighborhood and they have a shocking amount of representation. They've probably been to my house 3 times in the past 6-8 months also. No UCP door knockers only a flyer in the mailbox in the same time frame.

Puttig small business out of business is a social good. Make people work in larger organizations that can be unionized.

NDP has been slowly rolling out $25/day daycare for a while now. For everyone. It just depends if you win the lottery by having a kid at a daycare that gets the $25/day rate. There’s ppl I know that makes over $500k a year and paying $25/day rates lol.

I mean cheap daycare is a good thing. It’s been successful in Quebec. Unfortunately we don’t get paid equalization to fund it like Quebec.

My dudes! We do NOT transfer money to Quebec. Our money just disappears a bit... And they magically create new money. Simple really.

Id care more about subsidized daycare if I weren’t already getting this killer deal on rent in HiTemp’s head.

$25/day daycare woukd have saved me nearly $50k if it had existed the whole time my kids needed that. However now they are older, fuck that.

How about instead of taking my money and then giving me cheap daycare, I just get to keep my money?

If you’re actually paying for daycare, this would just be a dumb position to take.

We could get cheaper daycare than Quebec (so sub $20 even for the highest bracket) for the equivalent of a 2% PST. Even if you were paying a lower than typical $500/month for daycare, your expenses would have to be $25K+ a month to come it worse with subsidized daycare. It significantly increases the amount of money in your pocket if you’re a parent by spreading out the cost of daycare to everybody in the province.

If you don’t need daycare, then it isn’t as good since the societal benefits are subjective and the economic ones probably won’t benefit you directly. But for anybody who is a parent or plans to be and pays for daycare, it is letting you keep more of your money by taking a little bit from everybody, rather than a lot from the few. Like how we build roads, only a whole lot cheaper.

Only way I'm signing off on a PST is if my income tax is flat 5%. Sure as hell ain't wanting a PST just to fund someone else's childcare.

Need the poor to start paying their fair share in taxes as they pay next to nothing in income taxes (They have a tax advantage in AB). A PST would be a good start. The NDP would implement this poorly tho as they would just start cutting PST rebates to them. NO REBATES. There should also be no carbon tax rebates either.

Man, what's that like? No way I'm doing something if it HELPS SOMEONE OTHER THAN ME.

If people want to think selfish, that $25/day daycare is the biggest thing out there if you are going to have a couple kids. Way more personal benefit to that then anything else. I don't know how to confirm or refute the broader economic implications that the NDP imply.
