I'd suggest that the role of 'environment' minister should at least have SOME credibility on the environment, no? He's has shown in the past his complete lack of respect for those people who now fall under his purview. There is a pretty specific reason he went out of his way to get the audio from him ripping on a F&W officer (who fall under AEP) blocked from the media...

Just a bad choice by Kenney on this file, there had to be a better spot for Nixon then one that he has previously alienated his public staff below him..
He is the best candidate. He already knew who to fired to reduce cost.

I think it's a power move to the media too. Whoever you didn't like and has a problem with, will be your boss.

The previous NDP Ministry of Environment was a total farce. We can all agree that the NDP has enacted damage across the board, but the Environment portfolio had experienced profound retardation under Shannon Phillips.

The eco-terrorists marched to their own drum and forced their agenda on everyone. It has resulted in an Environment ministry that now has to purge everything because they will find some NDP Manchurian candidate working in Fish & wildlife who will snap if you mention "Codeword: Granola" to them.

So if you're the Associate Minister of Red Tape Reduction, do you just milk it for 4 years collecting the $120K ($240K if it has a portfolio) in extra salary you're entitled to over that time or do you just do the honorable thing and make your first proposal as minister to reduce the bureaucracy by eliminating your own executive council position and working to reduce the red tape as an MLA

It'll be an interesting one to watch.

Its not a bad post really - probably why it is something that exists in other countries like the UK.

If you can't get tangible results though then yah maybe it should be eliminated.

This is something done in lots of companies.

Also of note with the cabinet, they're poised to spend half a million more a year on salaries for cabinet ministers than the NDP did in their first year (8 more ministers, 3 more associate ministers; $60K extra a year for the former, $30K for the latter).

A drop in the bucket compared to the billions the NDP spent every year hiring useless government employees.

Red tape reduction would be an amazing portfolio.

A drop into a bucket that hasn't had any water let out of it yet.

So anything the new government does is cool, so long as it's less money than what the NDP did?

Maybe they just won't have so many highly paid, political staffers:

Premier Rachel Notley’s controversial former chief of staff, John Heaney, earned $287,122 last year.
Unfortunately, getting numbers on the NDP is difficult because they are tearing everything down, so unless you find it archived, good luck!

And of course, your "of note" is literally nothing of note, as is typical with you. They have a lot of NDP fuckups to fix, all hands on deck, and that requires bodies. $500k, oh no! Let us begin clutching our pearls in abject horror at the spendthrift profligacy of this government!

Yes, that is literally what they were voted in for. Congrats on your basic grasp of the current political (and economic) situation.

You're undoubtedly distressed by needing to try and justify this, but don't worry, it's normal.

Can we get a rule like Trump has where two regulations have to removed for every new one introduced? That's absoloute genius and so simple too. Every ministry should have to remove a certain number of regulations every month.

So going $60B more into debt is fine, because it's less than $70B. Neat.

Let’s play a game. Over under on your 60 billion in debt theory.

    I’ll be the under.

They are implementing it, following BCs example (apparently BC has less red tape then Alberta, and its a model for deregulating on the stuff they have touched!)

Is the poster that makes Gestalt look smart posting some bullshit about how the UCP has more ministers?

Yeah, that's because the NDP could barely fill 12 positions with their pathetic roster of morons.
