    Default Alberta 2019 Provincial Election

Turns out I hate ambiguous thread titles, so while I know we've been discussing this in several other threads, I'm still starting a new one.

Most recent poll I've seen has the UCP well ahead of the NDP who are themselves well ahead of anyone else.

Once the "writ is dropped" I anticipate more polls to be released.

Is there really anything to even discuss? Unless Kenney gets formally charged with something from any of that shady stuff, prior to the actual election (pretty much 0% chance), we all know how this is going to turn out.

The NDP has to go, period. This province really isn't geared for anything other than right-wing/conservative governments (that is evolving, slowly, but Alberta is still very much a conservative province) and the amount of political uncertainty isn't doing anybody who lives here any favors.

I felt a lot more confident coming back to AB last spring than I do now a year later.

Middle of the road for me, boring politics. Ab party or Ab liberal party (both supposed to be centrists here).

"Alberta 2019 Provincial Election" what? Discussion? Statement? Poll? Party chances? :p

For once, I'm going to say I think my opinion is well enough known and leave it at that. Maybe wade in if there are any crazy developments.

For all the crap going on in Alberta politics, the Alberta Party has to take the cake for being on a completely different echelon of incompetence for their inability to take over the political scene. Such an easy mandate: right wing economic policies and left wing social policies and just rake in the votes. I like Greg Clark and was glad to have him as my MLA but he didn't do much of anything to grow the party (but at least he did better than Mandel has, yikes).

I guess blame can similarly be levied on the AB Liberals, who would just need to give up their name and pass their resources and candidates to unite under the Alberta Party banner and they'd be able to dominate the political centre in the province together. The name is what holds the party back in the province, they have some party infrastructure in place that the Alberta Party lacks, and they want to hold the same place on the spectrum. It's extremely frustrating to see such an obvious solution to a problem just sitting there.

So we're stuck in a place where the NDP has the best leader but the worst party. The Libs and AB Party have should have the best mandate but don't really have one and have no leadership, and the UCP has the best economic policies but the shittiest people from top to bottom.

Can we add to the election:

-mandated 1-2 term limits? (ie no career politicians)
-if not, then at least recall legislation ?

Any candidate who doesn't support these basic principles is in the game for themselves. This is about doing not what is best for you, but short term pain for long term stability.

Alberta party at this point is there to split vote with NDP at the stronghold of Edmonton. Nothing more, nothing less.

I'm behind recall legislation 100%, especially in regards to floor crossing (it shouldn't be allowed). But term limits is a bit iffy. Do you want people running the biggest "company" in the province (the province itself) to be people with under 8 years of experience? I don't.

But I'd be all for 4 term limits (16 years). At that point, you've done your duty, sucked on the public teat long enough, and can go do other things with your life. 2 terms "seems" long from a political viewpoint, but as a career, you are just getting started. Maybe 12 years to split the difference? Arguably there are bureaucrats for the reason to guide politicians, but still...

    Edit-
Thought this was a different thread. Guess I can't help myself

Greg Clark is in my riding, so I'll probably vote for him. My guess is that's probably the only seat they'll win, if that, which is brutal.

Incorrect. Mandel was an appointed cabinet minister under Prentice. They are not Left. They are Centre/Right.

    Alberta 2019 Provincial Elevation?

What elevation? Like the height of the election, or elevated awareness of the political climate?
I swear the mods are fucking with me. No tip for them!

About time! I think they NDP decided that the current "scandal" with the UCP is the best possible chance they will have to avoid complete annihilation this go around.

Don't take anything for granted, get out and vote. I usually do the advance voting.

I'm calling a minority government. Unsure what party will be the largest at this time though.

It's not the size that matters, it's the taste it leaves in your mouth.
