    Default Track Day Insurance Converage

Heading to the track with my R8 on Saturday and got a couple quotes for coverage on the track. Best I could find was $1900/day with a $19,000 deductible.. Has anyone had luck getting something reasonable ? Full track day will end up being $3000 with my own car which is mental imo..

So you're looking for coverage (assuming collision & liability) for while you're driving on the track itself?

    Yes, that is correct.

I have never heard of anyone even considering insuring something on a track.
The mean thing to say (but close to reality) is, "if you can't afford to crash it, don't track it". Although this can translate into simply more careful driving to mitigate your crash potential and take your chances.
What scared me out of more motorcycle tracking were the many variables I could not control (others wiping me out).

Have you tried trackdayinsurance.ca ? I don't know anything about them (no affiliation) and I don't know if any of our clients have ever actually used them but I don't know of any Alberta based providers for events like this.

Pretty much any track driver training or track car rental program where you use someone else’s car is fully insurred. I don’t see why it would be any different if it was your own car.

This is very popular in the states (RLI, Haggerty, Lockton etc.), I wish more companies got on board with it up here. Lots of options for coverage for HPDE's, Track Night in America etc. etc.

Most of them have a selectable deductible, 0-20%ish iirc and it's actually very reasonable, $150-300/day for "normal" cars.

Thanks Masked Bandit. Trackdayinsurance.ca had the best quote @ $1000 for the day. Will have to chat to them tomorrow to confirm. Stone bridge insurance out of Toronto was who I talked to initially and it sounds like most exotic owners get coverage for the track. Good discounts when you use it consecutively for the same car and build a relationship. I mean I’m all about taking risks, but why wouldn’t I protect my investment just in case?

Oh, certainly. I just had never heard of it for individuals & didn't think it was attainable for less than one chamillion dollars.

Don't some of the car clubs / race associations have group insurance you can get into for this? I think that would bring the cost down a long way.

Someone wrote off a M4 at Castrol last season but luckily had trackday coverage, probably pretty happy about that.

Not sure I will do any more road course without coverage.

RSX in front of me at racecity burnt to the ground back in the day. Was a huge eye opener, no more lapping days after that.

My favourite thing about that track is all my crazy nimby family members spend all their time bitching about it on Facebook.

Oh nice, i've heard about that track but never been. I'm curious about the quality of instruction, I teach at the 2-day school at Castrol (in-class and on-course instruction) and it runs $600 iirc. GL/HF, i'd love to hear a recap if you feel like posting about the experience.
