Default Buyer Beware: South Trail Hyundai

    Hey all,

Some BS at South Trail Hyundai worth sharing. I'll keep it short.

    Here's the situation:
    1. Traded 4 x cars in and purchased 1 x used car.
    2. 3 x cars traded in were the Kia Rios I posted about a bit back. Each had a lien of around $8k.
    3. The fourth car traded in (my '16 Audi A3) was paid for.
    4. We agreed on a price for each car. This resulted in negative equity of approximately $8k that I paid in cash.
    5. Dealer was supposed to pay out the liens on the Kias as part of the trade.
    6. The dealer didn't pay the banks.
    7. I found out the dealer didn't pay the banks when the banks called me asking where their money was.
    8. Deal happened end of February.
    9. Dealer manager won't return my calls or emails.
    10. On top of that, the '17 Fusion they told me had brutal misalignment on the tires.
    11. Lesson learned: South Trail Hyundai is a bullshit dealer.

Seriously. Be careful if you decide to do business with them. The dealer manager still hasn't gotten back to me despite his dealership causing this stupid situation.

Guess we'll add South Trail Hyundai to the list of asshole dealerships in Calgary.

Note: South Trail Hyundai just today sent me confirmation the banks have been paid. Approximately 1 month after the deal was closed.

Shitty experience but 4 cars traded in, 1 being an Audi to get a Ford Fusion? Weird flex but okay

Well imagine if instead of writing that letter to the editor, she just posts on a car forum for car enthusiasts. That's Kritafo.

All of the Hyundai and Kia dealers in the city are horrible, based on my personal experiences and everything I've read. This does not surprise me in the least - sorry for your troubles.

Do you have signed docs where the dealer agreed to pay out Liens?

That's pretty poor from the dealership, but at the same time, I cannot imagine a more complex transaction. Trading in four cars (with leins) to buy a used vehicle? There were a lot of ways for that to go wrong, and only about half of them did. So it's not good, but could have been worse.

lol let's clear some things up re: the Fusion Flex.

The 3 Kias were purchased for a business I used to be an equity holder in. I purchased the vehicles in my name. This was fine and dandy until recently when I needed to remove the Kias from my credit.

The only way the dealer was going to take the Kias was if I bought a vehicle, and since my wife and I prefer having a single vehicle, I traded in my paid-for Audi in order to get a Fusion... the only vehicle on the lot within a price I wanted to pay that had AWD and wasn't a base model or SUV.

Not stoked to get the Fusion, but that's how that deal went down.

Damn, I'm glad you got that shit sorted out Cam. Must have caught you a bit off guard when the banks asked you where the money was.

I imagine you would have called the dealership right away after the banks contacted you. How long between initially contacting the dealer manager and getting that confirmation today?

They have to pay the liens, it is also in their best interest to do so because they wouldnt be able to sell your Kias otherwise

They are part of the McManes group, not some used car dirt lot, so that isnt something that they'd fuck around with. I think the cheque just got delayed. but yes, those delays are often annoying but i dont think they were to scam you. Plus you mentioned deal closed end of Feb, so a few weeks to close out the loans is definitely too long but not all that crazy (i've heard of 4+ weeks before)
