A rip through the gears on the weekend is my stress relief. Gated 5-speed life.
What's the retail on one of those?

More than you can afford pal
All of my cars are manuals - I'm not a pansy-ass bitch
No offense to you automatic drivers of course

Which is fine, but its goalpost changing. If I want to shift a car manually, I want to shift it manually. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
If I want an automatic, I want an automatic. And the only time I want an automatic is in stop and go. I'd even prefer a manual diesel truck for towing, no matter what, you are out $4500+ for a auto tranny rebuild at about 400k on any diesel pickup. Manual? Just change the clutch and keep going.
And yea, I manual shifted the auto M4. It was ok I guess?
It's like watching X275 cars at the dragstrip. The autos are so well sorted, so smooth, so figured out, a car that does 4.4 in the 1/8 (7's in the 1/4) is BORING to watch.
Just like after the first time or two, they are boring to drive.
Different strokes I suppose.
If you think the dct shifting in an M4 “is ok” then you must find a true manual absolutely intolerable.
The M DCT in an M4 is the yardstick to which all transmissions are compared.
That being said, drive a car with a ZF8 (true automatic), which is amazing in both automatic and manual mode.
Driving a car with a high performance dct dsg pdk etc. is a completely different experience since those cars are setup for very different reasons than smoothness in stop and go traffic. But they do a damn good job of making very high performance transmissions approachable on a daily basis.

haha shit, I see where your problem is. Yea, dunno what to tell ya, no automatic is going to be able to read your mind because at some point you want to do something that's completely unexpected for the situation (ie lug the engine for no reason) and expect the automatic to actually know that. I haven't changed the goalposts, I've always stressed that flappy shifters meet everything positive I want about MT, and none of the negatives. I only drive in full auto mode when I'm commuting. Turnoff coming up, want to have fun, manual mode, done. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Afaik there is no way to replicate the feeling of a perfect rev-match or heel-toe (yes i'm aware of computer aided rev matching). Doing it yourself with a proper exhaust just feels so damn good, I don't think I could ever go auto.
It was cool as a kid, but I got tired of that feeling since I was hitting 99% of my rev matched heel toe under braking at the track. Don't miss it at all. Would be curious if I could still do it today, it's been forever since I've driven a MT car at speed. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Everyone arguing that a DCT or good automatic is superior than a manual, without thinking about not every car having DCT or a GOOD automatic.
Not many bad ones out there in 2019 unless you buy something dogshit with a CVT...This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
If you buy a car with one of the shit auto’s these days, this thread clearly does NOT apply to you.

I didn't feel confident trying to learn those techniques on track years ago, then I started rev matching every day on the street and eventually it became second nature. If it's childish to enjoy that sound every day I don't want to grow upThis quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
OP is looking for a used sedan between $20g and $30g... There are many shitty auto's in that range. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Don't get me wrong, I enjoy that sound too. It's just I get that every time I downshift in my AT car. With farts no less! This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Wow man that would be super frustrating if you're trying to have some fun in the snow. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
There are way more good DTC's than good manual transmissions. The VW manual is junk as are the manuals that come with Korean cars. Ford manual transmission are made in China or and are hit and miss. Tremec manuals alternate between good and rowing through a bucket of bolts. Even the CTR manual is prone to grinding 2nd gear if driven aggressively. Miata has a great manual but easy to do with no torque. Porsche is the only company that nails them perfectly. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

This is a good point. The 6 speed in my Z is far from being a slick tranny, it DOES have synchro Rev match though lol which is awesome. Im starting to think my problem isn't the tranny, it's the fact I'm driving 100 km a day in a little two seater that has literally zero noise insulation. I'm just getting old haha and I need to come to terms with this. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I miss chirping 3rd
I miss not being able to find 'em so I'd grind 'em. lol jk, jk.
I recently picked up a 5-speed manual commuter sedan and I've been loving getting back into a manual. My gf can drive manuals better than most guys can so she's been loving it too, tho she hates the seat height position.
Looking around
Wondering what became
Of what I once knew
