Just awful and tragic. The building is historic and its contents (relics, artwork, stained glass, etc) are irreplaceable.
Most of that stuff is/was saved apparently, because it was removed for the renos. Regarding the stained glass, some people seem to think a proprietary method was used to achieve certain colors (died with the artist), other people think that is BS and it's easily duplicated, so I don't know what's true.

Whatever construction worker messed up (the #1 theory as to how the fire started) must not be feeling too good about themselves right now.

It sucks, but it'll probably be rebuilt to look the same to all the tourists, just like many other similar buildings elsewhere that were destroyed in WW2.

We have been visiting Notre Dame every single year for pretty much a decade now. Every time we are in France we always stop there for a visit no matter how much or how little time we are in Paris. Super saddened by this. He is a pic from out flat last year while we were there...

Thankfully the vaulted ceiling are still somewhat intact. Notre-Dame de Paris is truly a magnificent work of art and an unbelievable cathedral to witness in person. The size and scale of Notre-Dame is astounding. So very sad that it is now damaged.

A billionaires consortium has already pledged 300 million euros for the rebuild.

What I learned from that, apparently Louis Vuitton Moët and Hennessy are all the same company.

    Now that’s ballin’

Good move for those brands to put their names on such an icon. That Chinese Chiron dude should give some money, I wonder if the Frenchies will him put a Ding on the building.

Apparently the amount being donated is now over 450 million dollars. With Apple piling on with an undisclosed amount.

Great to hear that this rebuild will likely get done!

Also keep in mind it's been partially rebuilt multiple times before (including the spire), this is nothing new. It's "bones" stayed intact this time too and there is probably a huge insurance payout coming - makes me wonder how much of this private money they will even need.

There's been a number of attacks on churches there lately.. I'm not buying the work related theory at this point. Anyone who has ever done hot work knows how much care is taken to ensure a fire doesn't start, I can only imagine it's even more meticulous in a place like that.

Wow, they have apparently confirmed that the Rose Windows survived the fire intact. Incredible.

It actually doesn't look that bad inside, relative to what happened anyway. Nice to hear the windows are probably OK, that sounded like it may have been one of the more difficult things to reproduce.

It's hasn't really been rebuilt as much as people seem to be talking about in the media. The majority of the church is original with some additions throughout the years to add to the size. The rose windows stone work dates back to the ~1255. There's just a lot of the building that is priceless because it has survived relatively intact for so long. It wasn't bombed in WW2 and was mostly undamaged during the French revolution. Primarily the artifacts inside were plundered but the building itself has stood since it's initial construction relatively intact.
