Default Preemptively unloading a bottle of slime into your trailer tires?

Anyone do this? Because I have old vintage trailer wheels on my camper I don't want to spend the money to buy a spare. The tire shop suggested i preemptively use a can of that tire slime in it? Never thought about that before... is this a good idea? Anyone else do it?

Edit....I already have brand new tires mounted on! Just wondering what to do if I got a nail.

I don't want to buy a spare as they are the old 4 x 9.44 bolt patterns, very expensive to buy online

If you have old trailer tires, slime wont help you. You will not see a leak on the road, you will see a catastrophic failure.

Trailer tires don't leak, they explode. What size tires? And more importantly, what date were they manufactured? Find the DOT date code on the sidewall.

I have used www.amerseal.com It can be hit or miss if it works or not even on a small nail puncture. For old rubber I'm not sure it would work at all.

dont cheap out on trailer tires, with old tires, its not a question of if they will explode, but rather, when will they explode?

and how much damage will they do and how much damage will having a potentially uncontrollable trailer do to yourself and others?

It's not the size that matters, it's the taste it leaves in your mouth.

    ^This and+rep'd.
Every holiday I drive by usually two but maybe only one stranded trailer waiting for a blown tire to get fixed. You can see the furious wife with her hands on her hips trying to coral their kids from the traffic.
    Don't.

How old is too old? I have inspected for any visible signs of cracking, but when should you proactively replace?

I know people that say 5 years, but I'm willing to go longer. I suppose it depends on the weight of your trailer vs the weight rating of your tires too.

Not sure there's a consensus on how old.

i agree, rule of thumb is 5 years, but i have let mine go longer. its gonna depend mostly on UV and elements exposure.

Tire slime hardens up after a while (says mountain biking experience) with how much an RV sits - you can imagine how likely it is to harden in a convenient place...

I guess I forgot to mention one small detail lol...I had brand new tires mounted on them. Im just still worried about getting a flat, so I suggested bringing a bottle of that stuff on trips and the guy said why not just spray it in preemptively.

My thoughts still stand. You almost always get a catastrophic failure. If you dont want to take a spare (not sure why you wouldn't want too, they are cheap) then AMA is your next best bet.

If you are spraying anything, it’s not Slime. The aerosol shit is basically glue and not good. Slime has to be poured / pumped in with the shrader core removed, then the tire is re-inflated.

I have the +rv. Good peace of mind because towing RV's or trailers can get expensive in a hurry if something breaks.

Yeah that tire sealant shit is only really intended for you to limp off the road so you can change the tire, but then no tire shop will repair the tire with that shit in it... just have a spare and the means to change it.
