NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh says he would try to form a coalition government with other parties if the Conservatives win the most seats in the election, but fail to secure a majority.

I try to gauge sentiment on the (leftist) CBC comments section - a typical article nets around 500-100 comments, but this one has over 5000.

The top comments are (usually) very much anti Trudeau. Sounds like even liberals dislike him.

"I love the environment but i have two jumbo jets and just bought a 5 billion dollar pipeline. I am a feminist but fired two women for standing up to me and elbowed another in the br east. Who am I?"

    Perhaps.

Like I said in my personal thread - I'm voting Green so crackpot may decides to shut off all Canadian oil and gas production. It's the only way to reset the system, force the next great depression or a US invasion of Canadas energy production.

Is it too late to donate to the NDP to get more advertising out? I have no confidence in the ability of any parties to form a working coalition.

Well, I dont think that's how THAT would play out. but...

The best case scenario in terms of this election will only serve to kick the can down the road on a non-functional Confederation. A worst-case outcome would likely foment whatever reconstruction of Confederation sentiments are out there. So it is sort of a win-win election for someone like me.

Do tell? How would it play out? My GTA centric family believes Alberta's role in the North American energy market is insignificant. Even when you show them the numbers - apparently magically production can appear outside Alberta borders and from cleaner sources.

Look at the impact of upgraders going offline and the price fixing discussions that follow - that's just a small percentage...

So I wonder what happens if Liberals and Conservatives effectively tie and say NDP has enough seats to form a majority coalition with either one. Which side would they choose? Presumably Liberal? Or would both sides just have to pander to the NDP i guess to get stuff through

It's important to look closely at lawn signs during election campaigns. Last time i voted for a real estate agent

Singh said during the debate that he would NOT work with the Cons if they won a minority. This was after May had suggested that she might. He kind of chuckled while questioning her about working with them, then stated outright that he would NOT work with them.

Most likely outcome is a Liberal Minority propped up by the NDP.

    I could live with a Con-Bloc government.

Quebec gets to leave, Alberta gets to leave, and Ontario can keep it’s beloved debt and virtue signalling.

this would almost be better than a Conservative majority.

separatist is actually a rather hamfisted word.

    Probably better to say "anti-confederation-ist"

What I find constantly surprising is the delusions Canadians have about the merits of Canada (and other Canadians for that matter). Canadians think their desire for average-ness is somehow noble.

I do think Confederation ill serves the needs of the entire nation and that it's only ego really that demands a land mass as large as Canada be one nation when it clearly is not. Does that mean it'll ever change? Not in our lifetime but, imaginary boundaries come and go throughout history - it's arrogant to think this one will be an everlasting constant. Till then, a system of unified Government that actually represents regional interests would be a welcome thing, but we don't even have the stomach for that (mostly because the Eastern population mass is happy as a clam the way things are because they get everything they want AND our money to fund it).

Y'know its completely normal to feel ignored and abused. A central USA Idahoan potato farmer probably can't even conceive of why a Hawaiian welfare recipient needs $32 per hour just for basic survival, and yet - this is the way it is.

Just realize that whatever we do in Canada, the USA does on a scale 10x, including debt and corruption.

So did I make anyone feel better? Or worse?

I would be open to the idea if it was fully-baked, but every time someone explains to me how it would work it seems to rely on the generosity of both Canada and the USA to make that happen without nuking our economy/services in the process. Fat chance of that happening.

How would a coalition government work.

If conservatives win the most seasons but liberals and ndp form a coalition together. Who would be prime minister?

In the past (that I know of) its always been the party with the most seats still rules with support from the others.
