lol you separatists are delusional. As if Canada proper is going to let Alberta annex all willy nilly.
Hilarious.
I don't think that's a separatist positionThis quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
The question you must ask is if any province secede unilaterally. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
If no, why not?
If in a scenario Alberta separates. It creates the conditions where it may be in their best interest (BC) to join Alberta. It may not happen right away. But the potential is there. For both it would mean access to a western port, a land rich in lumber for growth. Plains to the east rich in resources, energy and farmland. No interference from Ottawa to create road blocks. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Its not a question of let, its creating the conditions as such that they will have to engage in talks. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
The SNP in Scotland is a good example of this. It was always thought the Queen would never allow it. But it nearly happened. It might even happen again.
Globally we are seeing a rise in nationalism. Central governments are failing to build consensus and take on board legitimate concerns. Brexit is a prime example. Look at Italy, or Catalonia wanting separation.
You say it’s best for BC but BC gains nothing. They already have a port, they already have trade agreements. They don’t want our energy resources to begin with. And the biggest issue for BC is the softwood lumber dispute with the US and do you really think them becoming a smaller country is going to give them more bargaining power with the US? Not a chance. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Not to mention, does the majority of AB even want to separate? too lazy to look at recent polls but i doubt it.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I see your point. Like I said it creates the conditions. I will elaborate. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Because they will be separated from the provinces out east. So they will have to go independent. It would only be a matter of time. Just like when Pakistan separated from Indian in 1947. You had a east and west Pakistan. The east side separated eventually.
Trade agreements could be re-written or they can go to WTO rules.
If BC was to separate, it would be their interest (or mutual interest) to join with AB. They will have another resource to export. The economic and political landscape changes dramatically.
They will need our resource as it would make economical sense to do so in such a scenario.
In response to your pointThat is partially incorrect, they do based on monetary conditions and with the current, economic and political structure. Its used as a tool.'They don’t want our energy resources to begin with.'
But once the political structure changes, that dynamic changes dramatically. i.e look at Brexit. The economic structure changed with the access to the free market. Then you had free movement of people which added to that dramatically. The political structure changed. Remember, then you have people dying and a new generation coming each year to vote. There is no way things are the same.
To argue they have nothing to gain is based on the current conditions. But I disagree with that argument because technically that does not work as the conditions as I have pointed out would not be the same.
You don't get people to buy from you. You create the conditions that they will have to whether they like it or not. That is politics.
I think people are way too quick to forget how much BC dislikes Ottawa.

if AB somehow does separate, i def won't hold my breath for BC to join us. MAYBE eastern/NE BC, but koots, interior and coast forget about it.
BC would itself start to become very fragmented if a credible Western sovereignty movement arises. Huge chunks of bc would want to ditch the lower mainland and go.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
We can just accept that Vancouver is new Hong Kong and move on

The actual train car where that grotesque display occurred is preserved indoors within the Three Valley Gap Chateau property just outside of Revelstoke. I got my picture taken in it next to a cardboard cutout of CuntyOlTrudeau. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
That place is fucking awesome, by the way!
I've spent a lot of time in the Kootney's, specifically the Cranbrook area and the sentiment i get from that region is the are a lot like Albertans. They want a pipeline to be built, they want more jobs. That area doesn't seem to be as hippie as Nelson for example. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Kootenay and interior would totally join AB. Those areas are even more hick than anything in AB. Also they know where their bread is buttered, and it ain't Vancouver. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
You guys realize a ton of BC is unceded territory? Not a chance if leaves the cash cow that is Canada.
What give the FN money? Better than sending money to those fuckheads in Quebec.
A ton of BC is also a big money pit for infrastructure and services. Let BCers pay for the stuff in the Kootenays and Albertans use it. Why would we want to take that on?This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
