Stemming from the federal election thread. Since it was talked about and nobody put one up, lets do it!

As at today Canadian, but if we were to separate I'd likely identify as both? Dunno how it would work to be honest lol. Hard to not identify as Canadian after being told as such for 30 years. I mean not like we gonna have an Alberta hockey team to cheer for in the Olympics haha.

I live in Ontario now, but when I lived in Alberta I definitely viewed myself as Canadian.

Matter of fact, going to BC with an Alberta license plate was embarrassing, because everyone assumed you were a redneck asshole.

Neither. I have no interest in some sort of geography based pride or identity.

I don't understand when people say they are proud that Canada won a gold medal at the Olympics (say in hockey). "WE WON". Uh, no. Those twenty guys won. You sat on your ass and didn't do shit. Be proud of your own accomplishments - pride by association is empty.

    Canadian.

I've lived in Alberta and Ontario. I've spent appreciable time in BC.

I love the diversity of attitudes and geographies. Canada is a very unique place.

I've lived in Alberta my whole life. But I have only stayed here due to career opportunities. I'm out of here the first chance I get when my other income streams are enough to carry me elsewhere.

But I probably am somewhat of the stereotypical Albertan the rest of Canada considers Albertan. However I'd still consider myself Canadian if you want to put a label on me, as Alberta is not a country. Now the treasonous cunts out east, I wouldn't much consider Canadian. Canadians are supposed to be warm and welcoming, which ironically is more of an Alberta attribute than it is Ontario and Queerbec.

    Quebecers are Canadien.

And they annunciate it much different. So I identify as Canadian, from Alberta.

When I'm abroad and someone asks where I'm from, I reply with "Western Canada - Alberta"

Here's a good one for you all... While we were in Hawaii recently, we went to a Luau. We had to register at the front and this old registration guy asked where we're from. My dad tells him 'from Canada'. The guy asks which part and my dad tells him to guess. He looks at our group and says 'well you're not french Canadian so I know you're not from Quebec. uhhh Ottawa?"

My dad starts to chuckle and says 'nah we don't even talk about those idiots.'

The guy responds "oh! you're from Calgary!"

And laughs all around were had.

    I think I'm "Western Canadian".
I feel it's an important distinction. I loved it when Harper was in power and the Easterners were losing their bananas even though he was far more extremist Right Wing than anything I'd ever openly support, I think he did it right. He went on the record saying things like "if it were up to me, abortion would be illegal; BUT, the Canadians that elected me aren't all with me, so I'm not going to push it". I liked how even though deep down he was a Reform Party nut job he was able to dial it back.
We here in The West are a different folk with different values. Some might dare to say "a distinct society".
I'm no Separatist. I don't hate Quebecers and I don't hate the East but I recognize that the geographical differences are too large to ignore.
Our piece of the puzzle is more significant than others realize and I identify with this region. My hope is that our region is able to gain a greater political voice because we represent an incredible value to the fabric of Canada and I don't think anyone can deny that we are undersold.

I split time between Alberta and South Carolina. When I am in Canada I am Albertan. When I'm in the US I am Canadian.

I'm either from Calgary or Canada. Not sure I've ever used Alberta to describe where I'm from, never helps narrow things down if they don't know where Calgary is (not close to Toronto, closer to Vancouver but still like a ten hour drive away on the other side of the Rockies...)
