Default Automotive Infotainment Systems 2018 Satisfaction Results

But for all of the convenience these systems are supposed to provide, CRís most recent owner satisfaction survey of members suggests that thereís plenty of room for improvement. From data collected on more than 60,000 vehicles, only 56 percent of owners reported that they were very satisfied with their carís infotainment system.

Plenty of room for improvement. The Japanese in particular need to step up their game here as every-time I drive a late model Japanese car I am left underwhelmed with its system.

I don't understand how Tesla is rated at the top, especially when they're ranking infotainment. I spend a decent amount of time behind the wheels of a Model S, the Bluetooth phone calling sucks and requires reboots to get a good usable connection. The Bluetooth audio is literally bare minimum, track skip, that's it. The controls are laggy as well, but oddly enough, just for Bluetooth audio controls. There's built in slacker, but that's literally the most basic minimum streaming service available. I mean I get why Tesla doesn't do Carplay or Android Auto, it doesn't really fit within their interface, but man using their setup is like going back 10 years in usability. It is pretty on that big ass screen though.

I do understand why Lexus is last though, their system is unusably bad.

I can certainly say the system in my Civic is disappointing, I'm tempted to just hang a 9" tablet over top of it and call it a day.

I liked the system in my BMW WAY better than in my Mercedes.

Was playing around with the 8 series on the weekend and was blown away. Might have to consider buying another fake M because there is ALOT to like the the M850.

Either that or pray that M5 Comp LCI comes next year and gets most of the 8 series tech.

Confirmation bias/justifying all the money they spent on their car and the belief that it's technologically superior in every way.

I wasn't surprised Tesla was on top

Elon could take a shit in the trunk of every car that rolls out of the tent and if you polled the owners it would still win the "best new car smell" award.
    Hahaha this seems so true.

Can confirm. Mine is bad enough but I got a loaner one time from the next gen model and they somehow made it even worse. When they got rid of the thumb buttons to click the "mouse" and made you press the mouse paddle down to click? Ho. Lee. Shit.
Now (only 97% of the time) it skips to the adjacent menu item while you were just trying to click! So much rage!
Navigation takes minutes to enter an address and their maps come outdated fresh off the factory floor but cost $400+ to update.
    THE WORST!!

Carplay wasn't out yet on mine, I literally resorted to 100% Hey Siri with no view of what's going on. It was like being blind.

The new Merc setup is terrible too for Nav. It's way prettier but much less usable than the old COMAND setup, address entry is just a fucking nightmare. Voice can't understand your address, and typing takes forever. Good thing they have carplay, too bad no touchscreen. Carplay with no touchscreen is like watching porn and not allowed to jerk off. Their audio implementation is great though, maybe even better than carplay in terms of usability in search (minus voice control).

CarPlay helps a ton on the Lexus for sure. Our old NX didn’t have it and the infotainment might as well have not exist.

Even the new system in the 53 is bad? That’s disheartening.

I have a giant aftermarket carplay touchscreen in my Jeep and it’s awesome.

I'm just being critical. Typically, I wouldn't care if Nav was bad, but the whole self driving thing actually ties into the Nav as well, so sometimes I do want to enter in my destination using the OEM Nav instead of using CarPlay + Google Maps. Since it has LTE data, when I'm searching for a POI, it does an online search as well. Really, that's not bad, except it adds a minute wait to each search with nothing on the screen. Meanwhile, on the old COMAND setup (GLA era one) the nav was simple to enter information, POI, but limited to what's in the database. I used that a lot because it didn't have carplay.

If the self driving stuff doesn't tie into the Nav at all, I'd be CarPlay Google Maps 100%.

Maybe that's why Tesla won. Their interface for Nav is pretty solid, quick, responsive. It's just that I never had a need to use it (haven't tried NoA yet). I'm mostly fiddling with song choice, so that's my must have, and Tesla is brutal at it.

Critical is good. The one in my C is pretty useless as well.

I really want the full system from the 8 series to make it into M5 LCI

I actually went to make an address entry on my 2019 Merc the other day. And I couldn't even find where to enter an address. Mind you I didn't look for long, hit the NAV icon, map pops up with no other icons or sub menus available. Went back to main menu to see if I missed something, didn't see anything immediately obvious so I pulled out the phone and just used it instead. I would say as far as user friendliness, my 2016 Lexus beat my 2019 Merc(on NAV anyway. I think the rest is better in the Merc)

Rage can correct me but I thought E class is not on MBUX yet, it's just updated from last gen COMMAND. I think MBUX is only available on GLE and A class.

The Lexus system on their flagship car is a complete disaster.

I drove my brothers brand new, LS500 from Van to Calgary and the infotainment system was a joke.

My 2003, 2000$ Honda Civic has a full Android 8.0, double din unit (which I connect using wifi hot spot from phone) is light years ahead of this, 120,000$ vehicle thats supposed to be the best at everything.

    Not even remote start.

Swipe left to bring up the menu lol. It's super unintuitive and different from every other "app" interface. Prepare to blow your brains out when you try to enter destination.

Correct. E should get it in MY2021 refresh. Current E runs NTG 5.5. The older NTG 5.1 and 5.2 systems were much more intuitive and quicker to get things done. NTG 6.0 is the version for MBUX.

The sales guy probably brought it up at delivery after i glazed over from the half hour of him explaining what heated seats were.

Definitely Lexus needs to get their shit together lol. Their joystick thingy is just pain in the a to navigate anything.
