I'm sorry... Why would someone tow with a quarter-ton?
So funny thing, our family hauler/beater/park anywhere vehicle is a modern gen pathfinder.

It can (serious) tow 6000lbs, 1200lbs payload, and Nissan recommend to keep the tongue weight at 600 or less.

That’s yuuuge for that vehicle haha. They also warranty the CVT with those kind of tow ratings.

    Carry on with truck talk.

    Well, it's a 7 seater SUV with a near 300hp VQ35 that's bordering on Honda & Toyota V6 bullet proof-edness.
The CVT softens any wiener still left standing, but still.

    It doesn't feel the same as a 4-banger, quarter-ton.

Well when you say it like that.

It has been trouble free for 45,000kms with zero sign of anything. Just change the oil and flush the CVT.

    Tis all.

Yea. Buts it’s also a Nissan.

Wiener retraction doesn’t get much further.

I've heard the Pathfinder/Murano with the VQ and CVT post 2013 has actually been reliable...

Nothing's been updated, but much cheaper than its competitors, and still better than a Dodge Journey

Not sure if this has been mentioned in this thread, but the next gen Colorado/etc are apparently losing the diesel motors, and a turbo 4 is going to be the only option. I've read this in a few of the car sites online, but it was last year.

    lol

well I for one can't vouch to Nissan/Infinity durability... I never had major issues, but I've had to do cam phaser work to both my VQs

I dunno, just thinking that a used low mileage Pathfinder with good spec can be had... why wouldn't you buy one over a SantaFE or Journey? The better of the worst?

as to the ZR2, I really dig this thing, but its reliability is where I think its suspect. Drove my neighbours 3.6 base Colorado and its spritely... but he has kinda been complaining about the transmission and a number of leaky seals. Guess it isn't a Toyota

That looks like me when I towed my tent trailer with my Volvo C30. The little Volvo towed like a champ.

I always liked Pathfinders and didn't know they moved to VQ35's. Way back, they used to burn enough fuel that owners would check for leaks, but I assume those days are over.

I preferred the old 4.0 and the fact that that it was still truck based... I think the Frontier/Xterra/older Pathfinder were the most durable vehicles in their fleet. The Titan was the original game changer, but its quality issue overshadowed it dominance.

The titan was maybe the first "fast" modern truck

I derailed this thread with the Chrysler of Japanese automakers.

But mine has the updated VQ35 with 284hp. It’s basically a 350Z that can sling fifth wheels. Win.

Right. It's the VQ35HR that is practically the Chevy Small Block of that company, isn't it? Not the DE and not the terrible "Rev-Up".
It was/is in: Z, G, Altima, Maxima, Quest, EX, FX, apparently Pathfinder... What else am I missing??
There must be millions of units! Could it be 10 million?

I thought it was the DE. Mine has the DE, and it’s made it’s way into the gen 5 2022 model hahah.

    No shit??! I don't know.
I just know the 03 and 04 Z had the DE and maybe even the 05. Around there, the RevUp came out and was a disaster that was quickly replaced by the HR until the 370Z came out in 09.
I just assumed that they carried the HR through the other models, but I certainly don't know.

Not many even tow with a half-ton. Then they'll tell you the .75 is bad value and now you "need" a chipped 1-ton with your tow mirrors out 99% of the time and no trailer in sight.

    Inquiring Killramosses need to know!

I know the DE only has one air filter. That might be a quick give away, except that I'm not certain if the HR has 2, or of that's the HHR and the 3.7...
