I think I had it for 6-9 months - not exactly sure. But after the initial visit to the dealer to address some annoying rattles and noises, mine didn't have any issues. I never towed anything with it so not sure and for light off-roading it was great and quite enjoyable. I had the gas version though.
Thanks for the honest response and sorry for poking fun at you. I absolutely love the idea of these things and still have yet to actually drive one. Hoping I can be more serious about considering one in the next year or so once we find a house and a garage. I’ve drive a 2wd extended cab V6 8 speed Colorado and liked the powertrain (most efficient truck I’ve ever towed our company car with) but I’m a sucker for diesel.

I didn't know diesel was an option.

    Yes 2.8L 4 cyl diesel with a 6 speed or 3.6 V6 with a 8 speed.

Wow that seems really weird, but I like it.
I'm starting to feel it in my plums...

Doesn't the ZR2 have a severely reduced towing capacity?

Edit: yes, 5000 lbs max, vs 7700 for non ZR2 diesel

5000lbs is even a stretch for them.

I'm sorry... Why would someone tow with a quarter-ton?

I’d likely be towing 3750-4000lbs, and that’s my biggest fear of this truck.

2022 Version is rumoured to be coming out with the 2.7L turbo gas out of the half ton paired to a 10 speed auto which is pretty awesome.
Not sure if they will offer a diesel anymore, so if you want a diesel I'd jump on one now

I think towing close to 100% of rating is crazy no matter what vehicle it is.

That’s the largest reason I’m really hesitant to buy one, and I’m not even set on towing with it.

    Daily driving a 1/2ton sucks.

Haha all good. What's funny is I never knew this thread existed and it was started by none other than Buster who always hated on the ZR2 when I had it lol.

I do miss having a pickup though, I placed an order for a 2022 Raptor but that isn't expected to land for another 6 or so months, so I might fill the gap with a Ram Rebel or something in the meanwhile as I can't justify the TRX markups right now.

Not many even tow with a half-ton. Then they'll tell you the .75 is bad value and now you "need" a chipped 1-ton with your tow mirrors out 99% of the time and no trailer in sight.

I never said I didn't like your truck.

What I do say (and still say), is that black is the least desirable color for cars nowadays.

In the prairies. Black is still best on a coastline that doesn't leave dirt on your car everytime it rains.

2 things I wish the 1/4 tons had...

Better rear seating and proven engines.
Not knocking GM's 3.6, nor the 2.3 Ecoboost... but I know the 3.6 pentastar also isn't spectacular

The only motors I think that are proven are the Frontier's VQ40, the Yota 1GR and the lame 2GR.

NOW... this is one thing I was told - the 10.01 compression on the 1GR and its unaggressive timing was deliberate. It may be "shitty" on fuel, but it was designed to be a global motor that could also run, never knock, on the shittiest of fuel (i.e. 85 or lower octane)

As much as I don't like the cab of the Taco... that is one truck EVERYONE respects for its capability and dependability.

What kind of scumbag lives on the coast. Gross. Prairie Trucks are my favourite asset class.
