Default Riding to work & Security

I'm curious how feel about riding to work and the security of their bike. I've though about riding my bike to work but I only have a unsecured area with a high volume of traffic and people.

I know I could use a bike cover and lock, but I know in the end if someone wanted it they would take it.

Do you guys who ride have hesitations of riding to work for reasons like this? Or this there things you do that can help prevent any issues?

Or maybe just better to not ride to work and do so after work?

Trying to decide if the risk is worth it.

If its my R6, I would be okay with unsecured parking its heavy and a bitch to move. The Ruckus and the Grom..... they are super custom and stand out, and relatively light so I am a little more worried. I have secured parking in my building so it allows me to ride the fun toys in.... but I get nervous even parking them on 17th ave. Someone could literally pick them up and put them in the back of a pickup

Yeah my bike is no light weight that is for sure.. and would be a bear to move.

Do you lock your bike? Or just leave it as is?

I got a 13 Dyna Street bob that's quite modded and also quite heavy. I just lock the front fork and lock the ignition switch. Aside from that the only thing that ever concerns me is if somebody gonna sit on it, or even knock it over.

I don't think twice about riding my bike to work. I lock the ignition and forks and we're good. I'm with Shlade, I'm more worried about people sitting on it or knocking it over than I am about it getting stolen. At least if it gets stolen I have insurance.

I think someone tried to move my bike with my disk brake lock on and it damaged the plastics. At least the bike was not stolen.

You don't mention where you work, but if you work downtown you can park them in heated underground for dirt cheap, something like $120 or $150/mo. Plus you can leave it there overnight if you ever have to.

My parking spot is near the music center on 4th. Its a open lot with a lot of traffic.

Typical disc brake locks wouldn't work as I don't have holes. But I can lock forks to crash guards on the bike and keep the wheels turned.

There's a CPA underground lot just South of Char Bar, which is very close to the music center, but I am not sure if they offer motorcycle parking.

If you're willing to do a short walk (10-15 mins) you can park in James Short Parkade for $120/mo heated underground. There's a couple more CPA undetground lots even closer (city hall, arts commons) but I don't know if they offer motorcycle parking.

Changing lots is out just cause of wait lists and such. I'm just trying to reduce risk that is all.

If that's the case I would just make sure you have full coverage insurance and park wherever is convenient. You can only do so much.

Or you could call and see if there are actually wait lists in a number of secure lots very close to you - my dad rode his bike downtown until he retired this year and had no problems getting monthly motorcycle parking in CPA lots.
