Is there something special about that webcam?

Sounds like just a ODB cable to power it and avoid doing fuse tap or traditional 12v outlet. Unless that cable has battery protection built in, probably not that special.

I don't understand the purpose of that reddit thread? If you stand outside for 5 minutes anywhere downtown you can see that live. Bikes and pedestrians do it too, not just scooters.

Anyone having these dumped off on their lawn or leaned up (or fallen over) against their cars when street parking? To me it sounds like a recipe for annoying clutter in neighborhoods but so far I haven't seen any in my neighborhood so it could be all in my head.

Haven't seen any leaned up against cars yet personally, but that doesn't surprise me. I never even thought about that. I'd hate for that to happen to my car for sure.

Will this be the end of e-scooters permanently? Even if things get better by summer, will people want to use bikes that have been touched by others without being sanitized.

So you can't possibly use it if someone else doesn't clean it for you? Pretty sure we're all going to be accustomed to wiping stuff off and hand sanitizer usage in short order

Lime and bird both said they won't be deploying as large of fleet this year. In theory they could attach a bucket of disposable wipes to the scooter so you can wipe it down each use.

But those would get stolen so probably wouldn't work in reality

yup. If you are using any transit options other than your own cars, you probably need those wet ones handy.

All comes down to operating cost. If they're low, they'll survive.
If not and they have large debt owed on the scooter purchases and high storage costs on these suckers, we'll be starting a scooter recession deals thread in 3 months.

Good points. Will wait to see if the market is flooded with used Limes before buying a new one.

Apparently there is a whole market of these unregulated "cars". If you can stand not know what they are talking about, it's a very good Top Gear knock off show. And if you know what they are talking about, some banter is way less PC than western shows.

This is why they limit the electric motor inside most scooters to 250 watt and maybe 25 km/h max. Its literally only a matter of $200 more to put in a 1,000 watt motor and have the thing at highway speeds (assuming the rest of the scooter could handle it)

I mean sure, you might only get 5 miles out the battery - but it would be a crazy 5 miles.

For those considering buying your own scooter, what's the market like? The segway ES3 looks nice but is there better options?

Yeah, everything is insanely more expensive right now.

In season + low Canadian dollar. January February you could buy most of them for half their current price.

Yeah I'm not buying now but curious to scope out the market. If things ease up in the fall I might do a Montana run and would be nice time to ship one to the border

Unfortunately LSVs aren’t legal in Alberta except on private property. Sucks, I’d love to use one to get to and from the lake haha.
