I noticed lots of them today! (and on the roads, not side walk)

But ~ $20 an hour ... kind of expensive!

I wonder if someone just ride their own E-scooter? is that ok?

I mostly use them for rides across downtown. Our office is on the outskirts so for the 2 dollars it takes to get to where I want to be I think its awesome. Especially on a hot ass day and I am wearing a suit. Expensive for a full hour yes but I think their market is short rides for suckers like me.

I see this guy downtown ride his own e-scooter sucking back a phat vape. Man does he ever look cool

There's also a pull brake on the left, like a bike.
Thumb trigger on the right to go.

Lime & Bird are in a pilot program allowing them freedom.

In Calgary other than that its not legal to use motorized devices in the City... but nobody cares and still does.

I was reading on the FB line discussion juicers are getting paid 100$ to get them out of the rivers.

Now that'd be worthwhile in the summer

The "Juicer" job is stupid as shit. I'm not sure where I read an article about it.. but the pay vs reward and how much you have to invest into it is just nuts.

I'll post again for visibility https://www.ridester.com/lime-charger/

Is it a massive earning potential - no.

5$/ 150$ bonus for 30in30, 4 chargers so 20/night... Watch for ones on your commute home and just be downtown before 6am to redistribute... 750$/month isn't baller $ but it's definitely more than a kick in the ass.

Yeah but you gotta invest up front... and in a City like Calgary where they become pretty much obsolete probably late October/Novemberish.. you've forked out all that extra cash to not be able to use it for 5-6 months of the year.

20$ per charger isn't a massive one time investment theres way worse ROI out there given it would repay in 4 days.

Li-ion batteries need charge in winter too - are they pulling them in for the winter?

So here's a stupid thing about them - you can't change currency you're charged in... your account is based on the currency of the city you first used it in. So since i used it in the US the first time, recently when i reloaded in Calgary it billed me in USD. I emailed them to ask to change it to CAD, and they said it's not possible and that i would have to create a new account.

pretty friggin dumb that you can't change your base currency if you ask me! maybe i'll try tweeting them or something.

EDIT: this was for Lime. Not sure if Bird has the same stupid limitation but will find out

Two people put less strain on them that a lot of single riders I have seen They are pretty tough I guess.

Also I have seen very few people actually using these for transportation - they ride them up and down the block a few times while their friends take a video or picture for Instagram and then they get off.

I've seen a ton of people use these on the west side of downtown around lunch hour.

Bird scooters have a $1.15 unlocking fee and charge $0.35 per minute of use. However, from launch through until August 12th, 2019, Bird will waive the unlocking fee in Calgary as a special Canadian launch promotion. Bird says you must be 18 years old or older to rent a scooter in Calgary. The scooters are limited to speeds of 20km/h and Bird says they can be used on bike paths or sidewalks. Further, the company encourages users to wear helmets. Bike helmets are sufficient, but users can get a free helmet through Bird Canada using the app. Additionally, each scooter has a bell, handheld brake and a light. It’s worth noting you can’t use Bird scooters after sundown. As for batteries, Bird says scooters typically last a couple of days or for about 50km of travel.
    Is this app limited?
Also nice of them to waive the unlocking fee for now.

I was brewery hopping on the weekend, just watching people, and at almost every stop there were people taking turns getting their photo/video taken on the scooter and then they parked. Nobody actually used them to get around in the 2-3 hours I was in the area, but they were rented many times haha.

I feel like that's why the experience is different. I've legitimately watched guys in suits use it to get to lunch meetings and such.

I haven't been outside much at lunch hour in the core because it's been 30C haha, but I believe you.

I want to try one out from my parkade to my office just for fun but the ones I come across have all been dead or near-dead so far.

That's 15c more than Lime to unlock and 5c more per minute. What does Bird offer that Lime doesn't?

I am guessing people won't care about that small of a cost differential and just use whatever is available if they already intend to use a scooter. On a 10 minute trip you're looking at a $0.65 premium.
