    They’re already everywhere in Europe.
Jump on a train, fold it up, get off at stop, finish commute. Repeat.
    Very convenient.
You strike me as the electric scooter type

They’re not going to be taking over Alberta anytime soon:

Would be hilarious to actually see people on lime bikes wearing a motorcycle helmet

Reminds me of one time walking down the bow river pathway and seeing some old man on an e-scooter (not the push type, the moped type) that was fully plated and everything just cruising down the path like it was somehow normal

I wonder if its the same guy I see on 9th all the time. Fulled plated up driving in the bike lane or sidewalk. Super weird. Especially on the days he wears his full high viz.

Uber has the e-scooters for use in Austin, and it's way better than a rent e-bike. Easier to get around, easier to use, not nearly as intimidating for non-regular users. Those go up to 13mph. Would not purchase one for personal use, as I'd rather be Tour de France guy on said $8000 bike, but I would use it in lieu of Lime Bike or Car2go within downtown.
They were lime scooters when I was in Austin.

yeah I'm sure Lime exists there too, think there's a few companies in Austin that offer the e-scooters. I just used the Uber one a few weeks ago.

They had a little booth in our lobby at work today. Asked him about the scooters and apparently they already have them in their warehouse and will be releasing them some time this summer after they finalize all the details with the city.

Apparently this is one of the reasons the CoC renamed 'bike lanes' to 'mobility lanes'

    Looking forward to it personally.

I’m looking forward to riding a go kart around if that’s the case!

Neither are bikes, but I think a lot of people ride those Lime bikes on the sidewalk without issues. Not sure the laws will help or hinder this.
Can confirm - the only place I have ever seen lime bikes being used is on the sidewalk.

Further to that, the only people I have ever seen using them are homeless people. I imagine they destroy the GPS receiver and whatever anti-theft mechanism might be on there, and then they get a free bike. On that same note it's hard to imagine a city like Calgary getting the scooters, the public would just destroy or steal them all. We can't have nice things here haha.

I sometimes walk along 9th ave into work and every now and then there is one of those lime bikes sitting in a bush, looking mostly destroyed.

San Francisco, LA, San Antonio, Phoenix likely have way more homeless people than us. Are you implying that Calgarians are shittier people that disrespect property worse than people from those big american cities?

Regarding the bikes, personally i've never seen one destroyed/in a bush, but i also don't see a lot of people riding them either. Scooters i think will get better use especially in the summer but i guess we'll see.

I haven't been to those cities, but I have been to places where, for example, they still have what looks like like original fabric curtains on their 20 year old trains, and things like that wouldn't last a single day in Calgary. The average Calgarian I would say is not very respectful, but I can't say from experience whether or not it's worse than the cities you mentioned.

Literally the only people I've ever seen on those bikes (or with one) are homeless people, but my experience is limited to certain areas of the DT core. I have yet to see a normal looking person riding one as intended haha.

What security mechanisms do they have on them? I am curious.

Not when you factor in the time spent in hospital.

Homeless people have cellphones with data plans?

I see people using these every day on my commute to and from work: around Kensington, by Prince's Island/Eau Claire, East Village, and everywhere between. If anything, I'm surprised at how much these are used. Even during the winter I saw a lot of people riding them. None of them "homeless" looking.

I bet a lot of people use them when they're racing to get a good spot in line at Made by Marcus

I use them occasionally to commute to work when I decide to leave my bike at work the night before, or after Flames games and it's too difficult to find a cab. I appreciate having them there and for how much it costs, I'm good with using them.
