What security mechanisms do they have on them? I am curious.
not too sure the exact mechanisms, but my guess is that the biggest deterrent is that it's more trouble than it's worth to steal them and modify them so that you can use them yourself. They would have to figure out how to charge them, remove the GPS/other security technology, paint them, etc. Just not worth the risk for such a shitty reward... better off paying $200 to buy your own brand new one if someone really wants a battery powered scooter.

the security mechanism is that in order to activate it, you scan your phone with the bar code on the bike, which unlocks the plastic piece that's between the spokes. So without unlocking it, you can't spin the wheels. Also not sure if the electric motor works without unlocking the bike.

Electronic ubolt mechanism bolted to the frame that goes through the tire. It only opens when you use the app and unlock.

Life is much nicer if you don't care what other people think of you.

    1) Would use e-scooter to get across downtown for a client meeting: Check
    2) Rollerblade to gym frequently: Check

Never understood this stupid mentality.... What is so different between ice skating and rollerblading?

I don't know. For as long as I remember it's never appealed to me, has always looked lame and I'm too old to change my mind. But please, roller blade to your heart's content.

You can only do one of them on ice.

They have them in Scottsdale as well..... my understanding is that the police/paramedics etc. are trying to get them banned as there are daily incidents with people using them while plastered. We had one guy from our group that decided to hit a bus while riding on the lime scooter. Ended up in the hospital, with chipped teeth, scrapes, and an ankle that was three times the size it usually is.

If these were in downtown Calgary, I am sure there would be daily incidences after people decide to take them home after a night out. Plus, there is no helmets, so it is unrealistic to think someone after a couple of beers would worry about a helmet....

if these were around in the summer they would be awesome to go between offices with, or even as a way to go get lunch at places that are a little bit too far to walk on your break

Yup. But I find 2 seater Car2Go are getting harder to come by. All I see are Mercs these days.

That's why I think $1 per 10mins is more reasonable.
