    Default House on Golf Course

I'm surprised it's so difficult to find information on this.

Anyone here live backing onto a golf course?
How often does the house actually get hit?
How often do the you have broken windows?
Do you have an increased number of trees to help with this?
Is there a specific premium on home insurance?

I guess it depends where on the hole? Probably more likely to get hit near the Tee than hear the green

No stats but remember that it may not stay as a golf course forever.

My wive's grandparents lived on the Highwood course, and they hated every minute of it. Constantly getting hit by balls, people breaking windows and never leaving a note, and then the community group are insane, being that they back onto a golf course. They'd never do it again

You basically want to be right beside the tee box, or behind the green. It's anywhere in between that you have the highest risk of getting hit.

I have family members that lived on a golf course for a few years (in the area I said to avoid), and their house got hit relatively regularly. A couple expensive windows got broken, and the people who broke them either didn't fess up/gave false info/etc.

Only person I knew who lived on one also hated it.

I've rented properties on golf courses before, and I too hated it.

As already mentioned, zero damage ever gets admitted to or paid for, people go through your yard for balls, other residents are retired busybodies, etc.

Add more trees to try and protect, and lose the whole point of living on a course. Can't build a fence to certain heights due to the 'look' of the neighborhood. All your neighbors will be old retirees who have nothing to do but go after you for every small violation or grass that isn't cut..

    nope!

To be specific, this was the house in question, but anyways it's sold now

I think it's far enough off the actual golf part to not get hit, and that the area is too much of a valley for residential development.

You'd probably get the odd long-ball from the Par 3 there, but at least you're not in the firing range of the tees for the next hole.
Not sure i'd want to be hearing 'pa-ping' every 10 minutes every weekend from my backyard either though

If I was to buy a house on a course, that would be a perfect location (busy road out front notwithstanding). Basically zero chance of getting hit by stray golf balls (or having people jumping into your yard to look for balls, etc) there.

I still have a gripe with this, I wish I gave that d-bag on springs 9 a fake number the way he tried to hustle me too. I really feel that if you build onto an existing course you should be responsible to protect your own house/fix the unintentional damages.

If you live somewhere and a course gets built after, the course should put up fences and have insurance to pay for the damages otherwise.

But everyone has a different opinion on this topic and I don't believe Alberta has a definitive law on responsibility (I could be completely wrong)

They have to take you to court. And then prove you were negligent in hitting their house. There are nuisance laws they can use to go after the golf course (see the willow park lawsuit) but really you should never be paying or even talking to a homeowner.

I've hit a couple houses... But I just go to the other side of the fairway and drop a ball.

    This.

"What kind of a dickhead would be bad enough to hit your house!! my ball is in the middle of the fairway... see!"

I feel like getting hit is a small part of the annoyance.

    Professional mowers. Every morning.

Tee box? You really want to listen to hundreds of hits every day?

Tournaments where people are drunk and partying right outside of your house?

There are so many red x’s, and so few benefits.

Holy shit I had no idea - we stayed in a mansion for a week in the States once (work) in the middle of summer and it backed onto a fairway. No issues at all.

This argument makes no sense to me. That's like suggesting if I back my truck into another vehicle in the parking lot, I'm not liable unless the owner takes me to court and proves me "negligent".

By the very fact that I've damaged their property, I've violated my duty of care, and am therefore liable to them for damages.

What you and vengie are suggesting is the golfer equivalent of a hit an run. Douchebag move.
