Has anyone setup their own VPN? I have a couple of PFsense boxes spun up and some of the Quantum-resistant encryption is already available at some level.

This isnt intended for geoblocking but for data security at coffee shops, etc. Id rather not trust any of the major players with actual secure data (not just workarounds for geo block) as they have been known to be compromised for years.

I run my own Ubuntu VM with openvpn server that I use for this exact purpose whenever I'm on a shady guest wifi

PIA has been sold to Kape.

Kape isn't a trustworthy company in term of ethics/privacy/malware/adware.

So be careful what the PIA client may drop onto your system in the new year.

Nice, PIa used to be the one to go to.

Essentially, it sounds like any public VPN (free or not) will end up selling your data to someone else.

If youre geoblocking, who cares - but dont think for a second that its 'secure' from the professionals who get the back end data.

Yes, you might prevent a public wifi snoop, but that just means your secure data gets taken at a later point.

Being ethical means $30M in debt, hence PIA sold out.

No idea, the $32.1M debt is mentioned in the deal. But the VPN landscape got way more competitive in the last few years and I guess you either undercut and grow fast or go under.

    for what purpose, streaming contents?
I've cancelled TorGuard and went with PrivateVPN - referral link https://privatevpn.com/rt/CUb
My wife uses it all the time to stream US and Asian contents. My sister also went with it for US/European stream and been happy.

Same here, ended up going with Surfshark. Even with the lifetime 50% off that I had with Torguard, it still was way more than Surfshark was. Only thing I really miss is the amount of servers that Torguard had available.
