National gave me a wrangler 4dr to drive this week in Nebraska, how do you guys find that they handle in our alberta cross wind going up Hwy2 because down here I was driving between 70 - 80mph with a strong cross wind of around 60mph and I was getting blown all over my lane, the steering feels super loose too like its hard to keep it in a straight line. This rental i think a 2020 model has only 1000miles on it, and if I take my hands off the steering wheel it does drive straight so I know the alignment is not fucked.

Also wondering if 2WD is RWD or FWD because I find it slips on gravel roads in 2WD above 40MPH. Other than that I was super confused by the window controls being in the central dash. And the car seems super noisy maybe by the lack of actual roof, infact it looks like a previous renter attempted to take the roof off because its damaged on the front. I also was wondering if there is a better way to open the trunk as the rear opener just opens a little door.

Yea they are pretty terrible for steering on the highway and wind noise. Not much fun on the highway that’s for sure.

2wd is definitely to the rear.

60 mph winds is close to Cat 1 Hurricane wind

Steering is loose on them and driving 80 mph with no wind is hard to keep straight. There are a 3-4 roof combos and depending on what you had they all vary in noise. Also depending on what type of 4x4 system you had makes a difference in how straight it tracks. Not sure what you mean by trunk opening. On mine I swing the door open and lift the glass up for a full opening hatch. If yours didnt do this, it makes me think you had a soft top which is a PITA.

I drive mine on highway (yes, I still have it) all the time and while I agree that winds and noise can be an issue, I still enjoy it! The back is supposed to open the metal door first and then lift the glass trunk.

Haha I am definitely still enjoying man. In fact did more mods will post a pic.

Also wanted to say to the original bump, as to why I don't feel mine is too bad on highways; it is likely cause I have much wider tires that probably give it a little more stability.

I definitely found that heavier / wider tires made the Jeep better to drive. Kindof odd but just felt less apt to bounce around.

So I tried to changed to 4wd with that other gear stick but even with the auto shifter in neutral it really does not want to drop down to 4H the 4wd symbol came up and blinked twice but I think it remained in 2WD. Its probably the V6 version.

Don't need to be in neutral for 4H... just leave it in gear. Also gravel roads will feel slippery due to tire inflation.

Jeep also recommends shifting while the car is moving, makes it easier.

The transfer case is mechanical so it’s either in or it’s not.

The stock tires are pretty garbage as well.

That’s a hard top JL. So as people have mentioned open the truck with the door then the window is the only way to use it.

I might be looking at getting a new vehicle pretty quick here so I'm revisiting the idea of a Wrangler.

Was the $9k you guys got last year on the previous model year advertised online or was that only when you went in to look at them?

Buy a wrangler this year, and a bronco in 18 months when you can walk in and negotiate. Double win.

Yeah I was looking at that last night. As sweet as the Bronco looks, 1) it's about $10k more than what I want to spend OTD, 2) I'm always a little hesitant to buy the first year of a new model, 3) my car died on the side of the road last night so waiting around for availability isn't gonna happen.

If you need a car in 2020, then the Bronco won't work because it's here yet. Wrangler has it's faults, but as long as you know what you are getting, it's fine. I wouldn't want one for a daily, but lots of people do and seem happy.

If you can get a good deal a wrangler is pretty fun. Just know what you are getting into.

I definitely liked mine. I was looking at the gladiator until I realized how much truck you can get for gladiator money.

Like what, for instance? I'm pretty low maintenance when it comes to vehicles. It's replacing a 2008 Impreza, so that should give you an idea of what I'm coming from haha
