Payload is for suckers anyway. How much does a bag of golf clubs and some ray-bans weigh anyway?
Make the world a radder place, grow a mullet.
Public Mobile is the best, just like Phil Collins' mullet.

I was thinking a hockey bag was closer to the mark

But yeah, this segment is a perfect daily size now. I really haven’t had the need for anymore capabilities, and it’s just so easy to navigate around town and park in the most urban of environments... unlike say a raptor, which is alway great entertainment to watch
honestly that payload isn't terrible, my buddies limited RAM is the same. probably lots of fully loaded half tons in the same area.

It’s close enough to my Sierra as not to matter.

Still like mine. Have been enjoying it lots this summer with family, doors and roof off since no commute to work anymore. Pretty good on gas, lot of torque. I got the Sahara with on demand 4x4, so I just leave it in 4 auto all winter long. I guess I got lucky. Mine is solid, no rattles, or any other issues over 14 months. 0 issues, haven't been to dealer, yet. My Tacoma had 2 TSBs while I had it and my Ridgeline I had to sell because it was so poorly put together the rattles drove me nuts. I think a lot of the examples above are taking about JKs. I've had rides in those and think they look like crap compared to JLs inside. Would have never considered one of them. Best thing to do is test drive a couple. There is a big difference between a Rubicon and a Sahara with Selec Trac and headliners for example. But there is no getting away from the fact, this is a solid axle brick shaped vehicle. You either like it or you hate it. If you drive on the highway a lot I would look elsewhere. But a weekend trip out here and there is not a big deal.

I lease mine and because these have insane residuals they are pretty affordable once you negotiate it out, again less than my Tacoma lease. I do like the look of Bronco and fact you can option any trim with interesting stuff, but looking at pricing it's even more expensive than the Wrangler and by a lot. It is also over a year away.
Adding to this, The JL was designed to be more fuel efficient and a better highway ride with a slightly more sloped back front windshield and other changes, but you will get a crack in your windshield. My JL lasted two months before I got one during the fall. Its a lego vehicle that you can take apart, so it's going to be louder than a fully sealed vehicle on the highway. I don't find that there are rattles, and any issues I've had the dealer took care of right away. I agree with test driving a few, and I agree with the 4 door being more practical and roomy. If you are concerned about the noise, the headliners are a great addition. I haven't had issues in the winter, and though I don't have the on demand 4X4 I just toss it into 4H when I need it and have absolutely no issues. That, along with actual winters and not the A+T tires that come with it has been wonderful, and you have the clearance to get over most of the snowdrifts in the city.

We bought one of the new Gladiator (JT) units last year for the shop and I have to say, it is a pretty damn nice little truck! We ordered ours with the upgraded wide axles so max towing is a bit better. The fuel economy is so much improved in this generation and it really is a nice truck to drive. The windshield still takes a shit kicking from stones though!

Have any of you owned or driven a manual transmission JL? I haven't seen any listed anywhere in Calgary and was curious how they are. I'm on the fence as to which transmission I want and it's looking like if I want stick I may have to build one out.

Edit: maybe this explains why I'm not finding any manual transmissions out there

Some of the comments on that thread are pretty amazing
Yah.... I bought a fire extinguisher and now have the fun of driving around worried that I will spontaneously combust at any moment while j wait for jeep to figure the cheapest way to replace my clutch components with one's that won't critically fail and potentially kill the drivers and passengers in a hellish blaze.

Haha, that’s great... I had a JK with manual, super light pedal, hill assist and also with the drive by wire it also had some sort of stall assist too... if you slowly let out the clutch you could get moving without even touching the gas... in 4-low it was aggressive enough to never need the gas pedal. In 4 low you could also restart without pushing in the clutch (ideal if you stall in water, as you don’t want to suck sentiment in between the plate and flywheel)

The JL uses a ZF 8 speed automatic which is regarded as the best transmission in the business. Stellantis’ transmission programming on the ZF8 is top notch too.

Yeah, just get the 8 speed, it's a top-notch unit and you'll have a far easier time selling it if you decide to switch things up down the road.

Yeah, that's kind of what I was figuring too, but I didn't want to leave out any options. That explains why the dealership didn't have any stick shifts when I went for a test drive.
